Dear OGF members and affiliates: Two new documents have begun public comment. Please consider reading and providing feedback. Brief affirmations are very useful to demonstrate community input and support. More detailed analysis is also, of course, welcome. OGF37 : Monday March 11, 2013 - Wednesday March 13, 2013 Greetings from Charlottesville! OGF37 is upon us...just one more week to go! Open Grid Forum’s 37th conference, the first one of 2013, will be held March 11-13 at the University of Virginia (UVA) Charlottesville, Virginia, USA. For those of you that have already registered, we are looking forward to welcoming you all to Charlottesville and to another OGF event. For those of you that haven’t registered, we just wanted to remind you that the full/regular registration deadline is fast approaching and will close on Thursday 7th March , 2013. The registration form and the detailed schedule, containing information about the speakers and programs can be found on the official OGF37 website (http://www.ogf.org/OGF37/) Please note that the on-site registration prices will begin on March 8th and end on March 14th, 2013. Don’t forget to also register for your free seat at the OGF reception at Monticello via http://www.uvacse.virginia.edu/events/open-grid-forum-monitcello-tour-and-r… OGF37 : Internet Connection Announcement All participants will be provided with wireless guest account pin codes, which will enable their access to UVA's wireless accounts throughout the duration of the conference. Those presenting demos and/or tutorials will also be granted access to UVA's wired accounts (as well as wireless accounts). However, those intending on bringing laptops as well, please note that we have VGA and HDMI connections and not all adapters are compatible with our system. Therefore we suggest that you back up all presentations on a flash drive (hence the information can be copied- not moved- to the UA desktop's provided) and if at all possible, please send a copy of your presentation to Gina Corell (glc2z(a)virginia.edu) or Kurleen John (kkj5p(a)virginia.edu) by Wednesday, March 6th 2013 so that preparations may be made before the event. Call for Tutorials OGF37: University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, USA, March 11-13 2013. OGF is accepting proposals for tutorials that will give OGF37 attendees the opportunity to explore a wide variety of important topics related to cluster, cloud and grid computing and other related aspects. Proposals must include: 1. Title and Presenter(s) 2. Abstract (200 words max) 3. Intended audience (beginner, intermediate, advanced) 4. Detailed description (3 pages maximum) 5. Statement on if this tutorial has been given before and if so how this presentation will be different. 6. Resume or Curriculum Vitae for each presenter (2 page maximum each) 7. Call for Demonstrations The organizers of OGF 37 invite software teams to demonstrate cloud and grid infrastructures, software systems, and applications at the Open Grid Forum 37, March 11-13 in Charlottesville Virginia. These 75-minute demonstrations will be held concurrently on Tuesday, March 12. During the demonstration period, each team will give its presentation three times, with a 5 minute break between sessions. Participants will attend a demonstration of their choice for twenty minutes, have five minutes to move to another demonstration, see a second demonstration, and then move again to observe a third demonstration. This format will allow attendees to see three different demonstrations and will give demonstrators a reasonable period of time to present their project. Each demonstration team will be provided with a conference room (small rooms hold 10, larger ones 15), projection system, Ethernet, and Polycom phone system if needed. To apply for a demonstration slot, please send a half-page abstract by February 15, 2013 to glc2z(a)virginia.edu. The abstract should clearly state the problem the software addresses, the OGF standards, if any, that are supported, and what attendees can expect to learn. Gina L. As a reminder, advance registration runs from January 2 to February 9, 2013 for Open Grid Forum 37, to take place March 11-13, 2013 at the The University Of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA. FEDERATED IDENTITY AND DELEGATION WORKSHOP FOR OGF37

Federated Identity and Delegation Workshop- Monday March 11, 2013 Delegating attributes and identities as a means of establishing who, or on whose behalf, an operation is to be executed, is a concept as old as the access matrix. The basic problem is of asserting in a cryptographically secure way that A->B (A says that B is authorized to act as A) and subsequently have B->C and C->D such that A->B->C->D, i.e. D is authorized to act as A. The challenge in multi-organizational distributed systems such as clouds and grids is particularly difficult due to the different mechanisms and policies of the various players. Existing mechanisms include, but are not limited to, X.509 delegated credentials, VOMs certificates, and signed SAML assertions. The goal of the workshop is to bring together stakeholders in the scientific computing infrastructure community in the Americas, Europe, and Asia to present requirements for a good solution to the delegation problem, alternative visions of how this problem can be solved, and begin the process of defining a limited number of interoperable common mechanisms. Following the workshop the OGF Identity Delegation working group (IDEL) will meet to continue the work of identifying and defining proposed standards and best practices for grid identity delegation.
