Dear OGF colleagues, We hope you have made your arrangements to attend OGF 39 and the associated Cloud Interoperability Week and Cloud Plugfest sessions at the EGI Technical Forum in Madrid. We look forward to seeing you for the entire week of activities if possible from 16th through the 20th of September! More information if you need it is on the OGF web site at the link below. XSEDE13 sessions: XSEDE use of OGF Standards; Identity Federation and other community input to standards, etc.

Dear colleagues, If you are at the XSEDE 2013 conference in San Diego, please join us for the following sessions: Tuesday, July 23 • 10:00am - 12:00pm, Leucadia Room The XSEDE Global Federated File System (GFFS) and Execution Management Services (EMS) make extensive use of open standards developed in a variety of venues including the W3C, Oasis, and the Open Grid Forum. In this session we show how OGF standards are used for remote data sharing and access, execution management, and the construction of Shared Virtual Compute Facilities. Use of the OGF standards facilitates interoperation with other standards-based middleware in EGI and PRACE. OGF standards are developed by the community in an open manner and the processes for creating these documents will be described, along with OGF’s collaborative efforts with other standards bodies. Community input as always is welcomed. Link: http://sched.co/12seInq Tuesday, July 23 • 2:45pm - 5:00pm, Leucadia Room XSEDE stakeholders are evaluating a proposal from the Architecture and Design (A&D) and Software Development and Integration (SD&I) groups to deploy a new identity, group, and profile management system, based on Globus Online, to provide common capabilities that can be leveraged across all XSEDE services, science gateways, and third-party applications. In this session we will present an overview of this proposal and its ramifications, and solicit feedback and discussion about it. Dear OGF colleagues, OGF 38b is almost upon us, completing the second of our two-part OGF 38 OGF gathering, the second of these gatherings for the year. OGF's third major event of 2013 will be OGF 39, which will take place in Madrid, Spain co-located with the EGI Technical Forum (http://tf2013.egi.eu) Please note that the early bird registration fees are already available and will rise to regular registration rates July 31<http://tf2013.egi.eu/registration/index.html>! The OGF 39 sessions will be followed by a Cloud Interoperability Workshop and Cloud Plugfest (http://cloudplugfest.org/cloud-interoperability-week) which are co-sponsored by OGF in cooperation with several other important cloud standards organizations. This is an exciting event that is already filling up with workshop talks and tutorials by many different projects and organizations. We are looking forward to co-hosting this important event. These activities comprise part of a Cloud Interoperability Week joint with several organizations focused entirely on this important topic. Final call for papers: The first international workshop FedICI'2013, Federative and interoperable cloud infrastructures

The first international workshop FedICI'2013 Federative and interoperable cloud infrastructures August 26 2013, Aachen, Germany organized in conjunction with Euro-Par 2013 Call for papers Workshop theme: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud systems allow the dynamic creation, destruction and management of Virtual Machines (VM) on virtualized clusters. IaaS clouds provide a high-level of abstraction to the end user that allows the creation of on-demand services through a pay as you go infrastructure combined with elasticity. As a result, many academic infrastructure service providers have started transitions to add cloud resources to their previously existing campus and shared grid deployments. To complete such solutions, they should also support the unification of multiple cloud and/or cloud and grid solutions in a seamless, preferably interoperable way. Hybrid, community or multi-clouds may utilize more than one cloud system, which are also called as a cloud federations. The management of such federations raise several challenges and open issues that require significant research work to be done in this area. This workshop will provide a dedicated forum for sharing the latest results, exchanging ideas and experiences, presenting new research, development and management of interoperable, federated IaaS cloud systems. The aim of the workshop is to help the community with defining the current state, determining further goals and presenting architectures and service frameworks to achieve highly interoperable federated cloud infrastructures. Priority will be given to submissions that focus on presenting solutions to interoperability and efficient management challenges faced by current and future infrastructure clouds. Selection will prioritize papers that document and present measured comparisons or practical information on realistic, real-world solutions. All submissions will be peer-reviewed and judged on correctness, originality, technical strength, significance, quality of presentation and relevance to the topics of interest. Scope: Papers may be submitted on any topic relevant to the theme of the workshop, including but not limited to: - Case studies of interoperable and federated solutions across multiple infrastructures including mixed grid and cloud systems - Application programming interfaces and standards for interoperability and federation - Federation-compatible service agreements, SLAs and quality of service systems - Virtual machine scheduling, management and deployment algorithms in federated systems (considering multi-objective solutions, scalability, energy efficiency etc.) - Accounting, identity management and security solutions that support federation-level models - Legal issues and data privacy in federated Cloud management - Performance evaluation, prediction and comparison of federated cloud systems - Storage management, focusing on interoperability and multi cloud placement - Novel IaaS architectures incorporating federative constructs in their foundations - Virtual appliance marketplaces and repositories meeting the demands and serving multi-cloud systems Authors are required to submit original, unpublished research or overviews on Federative and interoperable cloud infrastructures. Manuscripts should be limited to 10 pages in Springer LNCS format and submitted through the EasyChair submission system (https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=fedici2013) Accepted papers that are presented at the workshop will be published in revised form in a special Euro-Par Workshop Volume in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series after the Euro-Par conference. Dear OGF working group members, Plans are now in place for members of working groups in OGF Security and Infrastructure (networking) areas to meet at the same location and venue immediately following the Terena Networking Conference (TNC2013) in Maastricht in June. As you know from previous messages, we are referring to this activity as OGF 38a and this is a target of opportunity, as many of the relevant working group members will be there already for the TNC2013 events. Planning is now underway for the next (and main) portion of the OGF 38 activities, which involve working group sessions, BOFs, and associated OGF sessions at the XSEDE 13 conference, July 22-25, 2013, in San Diego, California.
