1. GridWorld Registration and Programs
2. Nominations for At-Large Board Members
3. OGF Update
----------------------
1. Early Bird registration for GridWorld/GGF18 (Sept. 11-14, Washington DC)
ends July 28, so please register today to obtain the maximum savings. This
year's GridWorld is comprised of multiple programs including a
business-level Solutions program, a more in-depth Technology Program, and
GGF's well-established Community and Standards program. To register for the
GGF18 portion of the event, browse to
http://www.gridworld.com/live/42/register and select the Community and
Standards program. The Community Program content may be reviewed at:
http://www.ggf.org/gf/event_schedule/. The Standards sessions will be
posted soon to this page. GGF/EGA have teamed with IDG and GlobusWorld to
provide high-quality content in the Technology and Solutions program as
well. You should consider upgrading your registration package to include
these programs as well. The content of these programs may be viewed at
http://www.gridworld.com.
2. The deadline for At-Large Board member nominations is July 31. Members
appointed to the board provide guidance and oversight through their active
leadership and participation. At-large board members represent essential
voices from our community - helping to provide balance, insight and
expertise during board deliberations to enable the success of our mission.
I invite you to participate in this essential process by visiting
http://www.ogf.org/bod_election/nomination.php before July 31 and nominating
individuals (self-nominations are accepted) to be considered as At-large
members of the board. For more information on the entire Board appointment
process, please visit
http://www.ogf.org/merger_docs/OGFBoardInitialAppointmentAgreement.pdf.
3. On July 1, Open Grid Forum officially opened its doors and much has been
accomplished in the last month. Over 1/3 of the former GGF and EGA
organizational members have already committed to membership in OGF with more
committing each week. Nine of these organizations have given written or
verbal commitments to Platinum (highest) level membership. Several merger
integration projects are in progress ranging from a website upgrade to the
formation of the Technical Strategy Committee (TSC) to planning for our
formal "launch" at the GridWorld/GGF18 event. Standards Area Directors are
meeting today and tomorrow in London to discuss near-term direction and how
to increase the momentum that has made GGF's document series grow
significantly in the last 12 months with high-quality specifications.
Community leadership is refining its strategy for high-impact activities at
GridWorld including a great community program as well as a new effort to
engage grid vendors in the adoption of grid specifications. In short, OGF
is continuing the good work GGF has done for the last several years and,
with the infusion of EGA leadership, technical groups and enterprise focus,
is becoming an organization that will deliver results faster, communicate
more clearly, and enable better collaboration. Stay tuned for more updates
in the near future.
If you wish to unsubscribe from these updates, please send a note to
postmaster(a)ggf.org.

This one day workshop jointly sponsored by the GGF (Astro-RG and related
groups) and the International Virtual Observatory Alliance
(http://www.ivoa.net) will address areas where the global virtual
observatory is deploying an operational distributed data access and
manipulation system, utilising standards developed in the context of the
GGF. The workshop will look at areas of success and areas where additional
astronomy domain specific issues have required a non-standard approach. The
meeting is timely in that the global Virtual Observatory (VO) projects are
now deploying systems worldwide for operational and scientific use, where
use of emerging GGF standards in data management and security may have a
vital role to play.

GGF eNewsletter - December 15, 2005
1. GGF16 Program to Focus on Production Grid Interoperability
2. Usage Record Draft Specification enters public comment
3. Special GGF16 Registration and Hotel rates
================
1. GGF16 Program emphasizes Production Grid Interoperability
Keynote presentations by Ian Foster and David Snelling lead the program
offering at the upcoming GGF16 in Athens, Greece, February 13-16. The
event theme is Production Grids: The Path to Global
Interoperability. With production grids a reality in nearly every part of
the world, GGF16 will take on the next challenge working proactively with
the community to enable these Grids to interoperate. Key decision-makers
from multiple large-scale grid projects will leverage current experiences
to define a simple set of services for routine interoperation between grid
projects with the expectation of full interoperability in 4 to 6 target
areas by the end of 2006. In a year where GGFs standards activities will
be emphasizing interoperability, the GGF16 theme dovetails perfectly with
the over 65 group sessions planned in Athens. While the majority of these
sessions will involve heads-down specification and best practice work,
the program will feature a workshop on the recently published Job
Submission Description Language (JSDL) specification. The program will also
give insight into how enterprises are moving towards interoperable grids
within firms and shared grids between intermediate suppliers and final
producers (as in autos or aerospace). A tutorial on "Grid Primer for
Managers" will introduce the essential elements of grids, the business
value of grids for organizations, and how to take the next step toward
leveraging grids for business advantage.
GGF16 will also include keynotes and grid program updates organized by
event hosts GRNet (Greek Research and Technology Network). GRNets
contribution to the program will provide updates on EGEE, Open Science
Grid, HELLASGRID, APGrid, Teragrid, DEISA, Nordugrid, and other regional
grid activities. A full listing of the GGF16 program may be found at:
http://www.ggf.org/GGF16/ggf_events_schedule_ggf16.htm
Advanced registration ends this week (December 17) so register today at the
GGF web site, http://www.ggf.org/GGF16/ggf_events_regstrtn_ggf16.htm.
2. Five draft specifications in public comment pipeline
The public comment "pipeline" just received a new addition bringing the
total to five draft recommendations! The Usage Record Format draft joins
the WSRF Profile, WS-Agreement, CDDLM API, and SAML for Authorization
drafts that are currently available for download and comment. The Usage
Record Format document describes a common format for exchanging basic
accounting and usage data over the grid. The public comment period is a
critical part of GGF's document process and allows the broader grid
community to read and comment on draft documents. Visit the public comment
portion of GGF's website (http://www.ggf.org/ggf_docs_public.htm) to
download and comment on these important drafts.
3. GGF16 Registration Incentives
*GGF16 Registration
In addition to substantial savings, those individuals who register during
the early registration period which expires on December 17, 2005 will be
entered into a drawing to take place during the opening session. Mark
