There is a new version of the glue schema tools for storage at http://vdt.cs.wisc.edu/software/dcache/tools/glue_schema/0.0.3/schematools-… This is less than 3K, and only contains the glue schema 1.3 xml example file, the xsl transform, and the python script. You don't need anything else if you have installed the 4suite XML processing module. The script does an xsl transform on the example site info to produce command lines for srmcp and globus-url-copy. To run the xsl transform, unpack the tarball, cd to the directory created, and run ./glue13cmd.py The site name, storage element name, and user role are set as constants in glue13cmd.xsl. There is a second set of these in that file which can be uncommented for another example. Ted

GLUE2.0's Computing Element

Hi all, Can you show me how to represent the setup I have below using the new structure of the GLUE 2.0 entities? - our site manages 2 clusters - each cluster runs a PBS queuing system - each queueing system manages three queues: small, medium, large - globus is installed on a separate box -- called the gateway box. we run only one instance of the GRAM service on this box. anyone running a grid job at our site will have to specify the name-of-queue@name-of-pbs-server in the queue element of their RSL to pick which queue they want to submit their jobs to. It is not mentioned anywhere in the InitialSketch wiki (http://forge.gridforum.org/sf/wiki/do/viewPage/projects.glue-wg/wiki/Initia…) that the CE is still an abstraction of a queue. The relationship of a ComputingService to a CE is also many to one which makes it hard for one GRAM service to be able to submit jobs to a number of CEs (if ever a CE is still equivalent to a queue). Does this mean that we will have redundant info for the ComputingResource, ExecutionEnvironment, and ApplicationEnvironment for every GRAM service (for each queue) we provide? Is it safe to assume that the ComputingResource, ExecutionEnvironment, and ApplicationEnvironment entities in GLUE 2.0 are equivalent to the Cluster, SubCluster and Software entities of GLUE 1.3 respectively? You have a comment in the form of a question under the "element" section of the wiki which says: "can we have multiple resources (computing resources <=> clusters) served by the same service instance?". My answer is yes and isn't my use case above an example of it? Thanks, Gerson

Use cases from SAS

As I mentioned at OGF20, I've been working with SAS on defining some use cases that we'd like to see addressed within the HPC Profile or some extension to the HPC Profile. For the information side of these use cases, perhaps we can see how the GLUE schema can address them. I've attached a use case document that Doug Haigh from SAS shared with me earlier this year. From the GLUE perspective, please ignore the job control operations as these would be addressed in an extension to BES, not in GLUE. Perhaps I can go over these use cases in the call next Thursday if there is time and if people wish. -- Chris

GLUE 2.0 Computing Resource directories

The GLUE 2.0 Compute Resource entity has 3 attributes that point to directories: TmpDir, ScratchDir, DataDir. Computing resources may have node local, cluster wide, and grid wide scratch. Grids may also have other types of directories that they would like to publish like project directories, parallel file system directories, etc. It would be useful to have a separate "Compute Resource Directory" entity that makes it possible to publish other directory types besides "Tmp", "Scratch", and "Data". Perhaps an entity called "Computing Resource Directory" with 2 attributes: <Type> = "Tmp", "Scratch", "Data", or other IDs <Path> = the path to the directory Thanks, JP Navarro
