New OGF document published in the Informational track: GFD-I.113 Title: Technical Strategy for the Open Grid Forum 2007-2010 Authors/editors: D. Snelling, C. Kantarjiev Abstract: This document describes the overall OGF technical strategy for the development of standards spanning a timeframe from 2007 to 2010. The technical strategy ultimately describes the output of the OGF standards working groups as well as the requirements (in the form of capabilities or functions) that serve as the inputs to standards working groups. This version of the technical strategy is represented in the form of a roadmap of standards working group output over time with specific short-term milestones and target deliverables. It is expected that later versions will address technical strategy in the context of Enterprise and e-Science activities, such as the Vendor Adoption Forums and the Grid Interoperability Now (GIN) activity. Linesch Abstract: In today's global economy, organizations are being challenged to break down people, process, and technology silos that inhibit the flow of information, innovation and commerce. Individuals are being challenged to work in new ways - often in collaboration with other organizations, departments, and/or disciplines. This paper explains why Grid is the IT infrastructure solution being used by leading organizations around the world to enable this knowledge-based, global economy. It explains the role of grid technologies within the broader distributed computing landscape and defines three common usage patterns of grid today. It identifies the evolution of Grid technologies from application- specific solutions to dynamic, shared and service-oriented infrastructures. Finally, it describes the role that the Open Grid Forum plays in accelerating grid adoption in partnership with the grid community and the industry at large. Mishra, M.Shankar Abstract: INFOD (Information Dissemination) provides a general means to determine which messages are to be sent from which publishers to which consumers based upon information kept in a registry. To support this, INFOD specifies interfaces that allow the characterization (in the registry) of publishers, consumers and various other components using vocabularies that are meaningful to members of the communities they belong to. INFOD makes use of a notify operation similar to that defined by the WS-Notification specification to send information between publishers and consumers. INFOD also extends the publish/subscribe paradigm by allowing consumers to be determined dynamically based on the message content. Additionally, INFOD allows subscribers to determine what defines an event and which messages should be created in response to these events. Snelling Abstract: Past experience has led developers to the conclusion that successful distributed systems must provide robust forms of naming. Naming is the mechanism by which the concept of identity is maintained and gives endpoints in the system the ability to talk about other endpoints in a high- level, abstract way. Further, naming and dynamic name resolution are the means by which some of the classic distributed systems transparencies, such as location transparency and fault transparency, are achieved. This document follows the recommendations of "OGSA Profile Definition Version 1.0" [GFD.59] and describes an extension to the WS-Addressing [WS-Addressing] specification to include extensibility elements for abstract names and for resolvers, as well as port types for the WS- Naming resolution services.
