Dear OGF colleagues, I would like to invite further participation from OGF WG members, individually or collectively, in the following projects, each of which is a great forum for demonstrating OCCI and other OGF cloud-relevant standards, and are great places to get involved in cloud interoperability work in general. OGF has contact with, but does not (on purpose) completely control any of these projects - that's the whole point of interoperability, right? OGF36 is coming to Chicago!

Dear OGF working group members, Please see the message below, which has also been sent to an extensive list of past and current OGF participants. A dedicated team of volunteers has been working hard to prepare a set or events at eScience and OGF 36 that I think you will enjoy. As many of you know who are working on our current standards, this is the time to step up to make the world aware of our work on standards for distributed computing, to develop these standards and to implement them in practice in important settings. OGF has accomplished a great deal. Now is the time to capitalize on this work, reconstitute it and to move forward. We urge you to make use of the details below to plan to attend OGF 36 in Chicago, Oct. 8-10 2012, and to join us between now and then in planning this event. Please contact your fellow working group members, chairs and area directors, and see the notes below for important tips on how to save yourself money on the combined OGF and eScience registration, and also by registering early to get the best possible overall rates. Migration of OGF document preparation and code support, etc., from SourceForge to Redmine

As mentioned in December during the migration to new overall hosting for OGF, and announced formally at the OGF 34 meeting in Oxford in March, OGF is in the process of migrating its support for working group document preparation, issue tracking, code and document repository and community wiki functions from SourceForge to a new community server based on Redmine. Andre Merzky has kindly agreed to lead the technical aspects of this move, coordinating with the OGF group leaders and standards council (GFSG) and OGF Board as needed. So far this move has been in a pilot phase, with a number of groups having made the move completely from GridForge based on SourceForge at forge.ogf.org to Redmine at redmine.ogf.org . To cut down on the problem of spam registrations that were a nuisance on the old GridForge, we are asking people to please register for a new account and to choose a good access password to go with it when registering to the new server. At this point, since things have gone fairly well, I would like to encourage all work groups and community groups in OGF to make the switch. As we develop more experience with the tools, more features may be added. For now, all of the basic functionality needed to support an OGF group is there. For groups that use repositories, you may notice that the default version control system used on the new system is git, not subversion. While Redmine does support svn and it can be installed, so far all of the groups that have moved have been happy to convert to using git, which is presently much more popular with developers. If this causes difficulty for your group, please let us know. A tool does exist to do the migration of content from svn to git to make this transition easier for your group. US NSF - Dear Colleague Letter - Strategic Technology for CyberInfrastructure (STCI) (NSF12086)

Dear OGF colleagues, We do not normally mail out links to individual national funding opportunities, as these vary substantially in focus and availability, and OGF has a globally-oriented focus. The following announcement is compatible, however, with a long-standing effort that OGF has undertaken to bring information to the attention of national programs throughout the globe about the benefits of using standards-based interfaces in creating and maintaining science cyberinfrastructure services. While this is not, as far as we know, the result of any direct action by OGF, it is consistent with the goals and point of view of our community, and represents an opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of our output and work in a practical setting. We would like to call the following funding opportunity to the attention of our US-based colleagues, and encourage the creation of similar programs in other countries regions. In this case, a modest set of opportunities is being added to an existing national cyberinfrastructure program. I would like to encourage the exchange of information among members of our community on similar programs that could provide support for, or contact with, development of compatible national, regional or global services. Quoting from the announcement linked below: "We encourage submission of proposals to the Strategic Technology for CyberInfrastructure (STCI) Program for modest pilot projects presenting experimental national services to the NSF scientific and engineering community through a standard interface. These interfaces should allow for programmatic access to the service with usage and costs being tracked on a per researcher and per group basis. Proposals should present ideas about how they might deal with cost recovery in a permanent service.
