UR Group Chairs

Hi everyone As we all know, Laura's planning to step down as chair of this group due to changing priorities. Thanks for your efforts, Laura; they've helped us finally get URv1 out. But we know we need to go further; there is a need for improvements to the usage record scheme to take into account today's (and tomorrow's) requirements, especially in the areas of non-compute resources and aggregate records. We also need to progress the URv1 to having some experience documents; I believe there is experience with it out there on the basis of things we've seen during the public comment period, so it would be great to collect these together and publish them. This means we need to get some new chairs; three would be ideal, but without any nothing will get done. To that end, I propose myself, Donal Fellows (of the University of Manchester) as one chair. I'm also told that Xiaoyu Chen (of Brunel University?) is willing to be another; his assistance will be very welcome. As I noted, a third chair would be very helpful, and I for one would prefer it if it was someone with more industrial experience (and not UK-centric); although the large-scale academic Grids are important use-areas for UR, we really need to have a broader scope so that we don't miss stuff. But with two proposed chairs we'll be able to progress work anyway. Which brings us to the next step: charter revisions. Any ideas or shall we just add another deliverable or two? :-) Donal.

Conference on e-Science and Grid Computing 2007 Bangalore, India, December 10th -- 13th, 2007 http://www.escience2007.org -------------------------------------------------------------------- SCOPE The workshop will discuss the interoperability and interoperation aspects of current Grid and Web technologies, production Grid infrastructures in general, and the interoperability through emerging open standards in particular. In the context of this workshop, the difference between interoperability and interoperation is as follows: Interoperation is specifically defined as what needs to be done to get production Grid infrastructures (e.g. DEISA, EGEE, TeraGrid, OSG) to work together as a fast short-term achievement using as much existing technologies as available today. Hence, this is not the perfect solution and different than interoperability that is defined as the native ability of Grids and Grid middleware (UNICORE, gLite, Globus Toolkit) to interact directly via well defined interfaces and common open standards. This will enable cross-Grid use cases and applications from a growing range of domains in industry and science. The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the area of interoperability and interoperation within Grid infrastructures and distributed environments, to exchange and share their experiences, new ideas, and latest research results as well as open problems. Enough time for intensive discussions will be provided and outcomes of the workshop will be summarized in the session. UR-WG group future

Hi UR team, at OGF20 there were several discussions and one of them was that the acting co-chair Laura will step down as a chair. Is this still the idea? Furthermore, are there any plans about other co-chairs for UR-WG currently? An update of the status of the group would be very much appreciated by the RUS-WG team since we depend on UR-WG.
