Dear all, following the extremely fruitful meeting in Zurich, here is the revision of the proposed document. A few anticipations about the content: - the concepts are always the same: abstraction from short-lived details using mixins, extract/aggregate/publish pipe for the measurements - the syntax is different: I tried to make it simpler and more powerful: only 2 kinds in the model (one resource and one link), but the monitoring infrastructure may be hierarchical from 0 to n levels - a section about conformance levels has been added: the monitoring API is optional, so we need to define a level 0 to avoid confusion. The other two levels corresponds to the capability of creating user mixins (level 2) or not (level 1) - there is a detailed example of a simple case using an HTTP rendering You can directly interact with the LaTeX document if you like, though the pdf is attached as well. The LaTeX document is available on a specific collaboration platform: www.writeLatex.com. It is possible to update the document, but I ask you to follow these simple instruction, to avoid to lose the control of the document. If you want to add a note, please use the \rem command, whose usage is described by the following example: \rem{Augusto Ciuffoletti}{My comment goes here} placed near the sentence you want to comment. A footnote will be generated ("My comment goes here"), signed with your id ("Augusto Ciuffoletti"). You can access the document here https://www.writelatex.com/26835vgbcrcwithout authentication needed. The browser window is divided into two parts: on one side you can edit the source, on the other you see the updated document view. You can also download the pdf or a zip of the current state of the document. There is no "revision history", so it is impossible to "undo" a change. Thanks! It's good to see considerable activity in this area. OGF has made a detailed and capable set of free, easily accessible tools available to each of its areas, work groups and community groups based on Redmine and backed up with git (or, if preferred, other types of) repositories. Rather than spread documents over a range of other tools that we cannot guarantee access to or maintain, may I suggest that any draft documents of interest be moved to the OGF Redmine working group pages for OCCI, so that they can be available to all and worked on centrally? Andre Merzky, who maintains the OGF online resources, is a member of the OCCI-WG and is on this list, and I'm sure would be happy to accommodate any reasonable requests for turning on features as needed and giving advice on usage. Thanks! Dear all, the OCCI-monitoring document (https://www.writelatex.com/26835vgbcrc) is in public review since mid-december, and untouched. So I think it's time to freeze it (following Alan suggestion) as an intermediate revision of a future document. I'd like to open a discussion about it, so that it can be checked-in during the first days of February. Let me remind you that what I'm submitting you is the very first official release of the document. It is implicit that it *will* be modified in the future, to take into account any sort of input. The relevant thing now is to establish that we are seriously engaging in the production of this document, and that we have an idea of its coverage and impact. In conclusion, I wouldn't delay the check-in for the reason that we want to synchronize with the work of another group: I think that the informal deadline in the first days of February should be maintained, but before that date we can still do whatever we want with that paper.

Hi Augusto,
The NIST SAJACC group is meeting in DC this week. The results from that meeting may affect the specification. If you can wait another 2 weeks to see if there is any impact to your specification, it would be appreciated.

Dear all,
following the extremely fruitful meeting in Zurich, here is the revision of the proposed document. A few anticipations about the content:
- the concepts are always the same: abstraction from short-lived details using mixins, extract/aggregate/publish pipe for the measurements - the syntax is different: I tried to make it simpler and more powerful: only 2 kinds in the model (one resource and one link), but the monitoring infrastructure may be hierarchical from 0 to n levels - a section about conformance levels has been added: the monitoring API is optional, so we need to define a level 0 to avoid confusion. The other two levels corresponds to the capability of creating user mixins (level 2) or not (level 1) - there is a detailed example of a simple case using an HTTP rendering
You can directly interact with the LaTeX document if you like,
the pdf is attached as well.
The LaTeX document is available on a specific collaboration
https://redmine.ogf.org/projects/occi-wg/repository/revisions/master/show/sl... though platform:
www.writeLatex.com. It is possible to update the document, but I ask you to follow these simple instruction, to avoid to lose the control of the document. If you want to add a note, please use the \rem command, whose usage is described by the following example:
\rem{Augusto Ciuffoletti}{My comment goes here}
placed near the sentence you want to comment. A footnote will be generated ("My comment goes here"), signed with your id ("Augusto Ciuffoletti").
You can access the document here https://www.writelatex.com/26835vgbcrc without authentication needed. The browser window is divided into two parts: on one side you can edit the source, on the other you see the updated document view. You can also download the pdf or a zip of the current state of the document. There is no "revision history", so it is impossible to "undo" a change.

Dear all, the document is now in the official OGF repository. A direct link is the following: https://redmine.ogf.org/projects/occi-wg/repository/revisions/monitoring/raw... According with Ralf suggestion I have created a new branch, to avoid spurious dependencies among documents. The new branch is named "monitoring", and you have to select this in the "branch" menu on top of the "Repository" page on the web site, if you prefer this way to access to the document. The source, as well as the pdf, are in the "monitoring" directory. On Monday morning I have unintentionally submitted the draft to the Standard Council directly. Sorry for this, I simply found an attractive "edit issue" button, and I went straight on this: I thought this was a preliminary step... As I understand the document has been put in an idle state, waiting for further discussion inside this WG, and by a final decision of the chairs of the WG. It is still in open discussion in the WG. One relevant point that should be clarified is the classification of the document: the draft that I have sent you indicates a "community practice". the reason why I selected this track. The alternative is the Informational/Experimental document, also suggested by Greg Newby, that "may originate from outside the OGF, or they may originate from individuals or a group within the OGF", which is the place to start a "Requirement" document. It is a relevant decision to take, since it determines the future evolution of the document. Regards, Augusto 2013/2/4 Ralf Nyren <ralf@nyren.net>
