Hi; I will only be able to attend the F2F meetings on Thursday as I have to be back in Redmond on Friday the 15th. I'd like to hold an HPC Profile session on Thursday, if possible. Parts of that session would very probably involve BES and JSDL matters as they relate to the HPC Profile. call for implementers of the OGSA HPC Profile

Folks, As chairs of the OGSA HPC Profile WG, Marvin Theimer and I think that we're getting sufficiently close to having a profile defined that we'd like to issue the call for implementers of the OGSA HPC Profile. While there is clearly some more work to be done on the current HPC Profile draft (and the BES spec), we believe that certain ambiguities in the current HPC Profile can only be identified and resolved when parties try to get their implementations to speak with each other. We seek implementers to (a) help solidify the profile through direct interoperability testing, and (b) help define the compliance suite. Therefore, we encourage people interested in prototyping an implementation to email me (Marty Humphrey). IndividualCPUCount

Would it be possible to change the description of IndividualCPUCount to say simply that it specifies the required number of CPUs instead of the number to be allocated. The way it's worded now, match making based on the actual number of CPUs (i.e Condor) seems improperly represented by this element. Making it a little more general allows for the interpretation that a host must at very least have a certain number of CPUs, but it does not dictate the number of CPUs actually being allocated for the job. Resource managers such as LSF and PBS that only operate using CPU allocations could still be considered included in the description because if an allocation is successful then obviously the host must have that many CPUs. In addition, the following elements are worded similarly to IndividualCPUCount so as to effectively prohibit purely match making as opposed to strict allocation of host resources: IndividualVirtualMemory IndividualDiskSpace TotalDiskSpace For what it's worth, the rest of Resources' elements seem to be worded more generally (i.e. "required by the job" as opposed to "allocated to the job"). Now that BES has been revised it's time to start defining an HPC Profile

Hi; Up till now the focus of HPC Profile work has effectively been to engage with the BES and JSDL working groups to try to effect changes that would be useful to the HPC Profile specification effort. As a consequence the email traffic and discussions have taken place on the BES and JSDL mailing list and teleconference calls. At the July face-to-face meeting in Argonne we made a lot of progress towards redefining BES in a manner that would nicely support an HPC Profile specification. We also discussed what kinds of restrictions would be appropriate to JSDL for the HPC Profile as well as the possibility of creating a "basic HPC execution" extension profile that could be used instead of the Posix extension in order to support non-Posix (e.g. Windows) execution systems. Given all this, it's now time to start working on a concrete HPC Profile specification. That means that you'll start seeing traffic on the HPC Profile mailing list (ogsa-hpcp-wg) and that we will start holding weekly telecon calls to make forward progress. I'm sending this email to several mailing lists in order to alert everyone to the fact that the ogsa-hpcp-wg mailing list is going to start seeing traffic and will become the locus of the discussion for the HPC Profile work. So if you're interested in participating - or just lurking and watching - please do start monitoring (and contributing to) the ogsa-hpcp-wg mailing list. One of the first things I'll be doing on the mailing list is nailing down a date and time for a recurring telecon call. Also, we've created a place on gridforge for HPC Profile-related documents: https://forge.gridforum.org/projects/ogsa-hpcp-wg/ That's where we will be putting all the documents related to the HPC Profile, including straw-man proposals.
