Is this the right approach? Makes reference access difficult. Proposal: keep examples but restructure to move rule descriptions to the top and examples to the bottom. * Semantics of Groups issue Mike, Martin, Geoff discussed the topic. (currently it's in the supplement) * Mike's slides for GGF meeting on 9/14 - planning to cover the top-down vs. bottom up topic. What else? Suggestions included - A "How to get involved" slide - Call for a secretary and active participants (e.g. ~1day/week) - Get to extensibility - Mike suggested by way of "why can't you use XML" line of reasoning. - Ask about structure of spec? Do they have examples they like? should the examples be in it, even if that makes it a thick spec? - Depending on audience people might want to hear some specifics: E.g., example of our scoping - Also show people a larger-than-one-screen example and get their reaction. - Strawpoll - who are attendees: raise hands for - business community vs sci/eng community, new/first-time vs. have been tracking DFDL. - When will we be finished ? - Projected time for draft document: 2 GGF meetings in the future is our target. Partial Review of Scoping Chapter

Hi all, Please find attached a version of the core spec with some in-line comments and amendments to Chapter 10 - Scoping Behaviour. I have tried some minor rewriting of parts that confused me, but feel free to discard these if I have got things wrong or failed to clarify matters. Unfortunately I haven't had time to get all the way through. I found that the examples given helped me to understand the scoping rules. However, the consequence of featuring them is that the section has become quite large. In our drive to produce a more manageable specification, perhaps we should consider writing a more concise description of the scoping rules instead, and then referencing a supplementary document containing the current examples? I was curious about how this might look, so I made a quick start: http://www.writely.com/Doc.aspx?id=dc5kwkp4_444fsm9 But I'd like to discuss the matter and decide whether it is appropriate to proceed. On a different subject, I've recently started using Writely (www.writely.com) which is a simple on-line word processor with some really neat collaborative tools. We might consider using this when multiple editors want to work on the same part of the spec concurrently. They are now managed by mailman, the web interface is available at http://www.ogf.org/mailman/listinfo With that migration, all list can be now reached via <list>@ogf.org The old @ggf.org addresses will be available for some time, but are bound to disappear eventually - please start using the ogf addresses! A number of lists have changed their names: ggf-it --> ogf-it ggf-office --> ogf-office ggf-proc-wg --> ogf-proc-wg ggf-sponsors --> ogf-sponsors ggf-tutorials --> ogf-tutorials ggf-compute --> ogf-compute ggflistowners --> ogflistowners ggfstudentmembers --> ogfstudentmembers Postings to the old list names get forwarded to the new ones. With the migration we have also been able to fix the archives - you may have noticed that list archiving stopped sometime in mid June. Well, now its working again, and all mails from June to now have been added to the archive. The list archives can be found at: http://www.ogf.org/archives/<list> If you are an list administrator, and would like to receive the list admin password, please contact postmaster(a)ogf.org. In general, however, we tried to map the old majordomo settings to the mailman settings, in terms of privacy etc, so no or little changes should be required from your side. The spam avoidance policy has been changed to some extent, and is somewhat stricter than before. Please let us know if you experience any trouble with that.
