Dear OGF colleagues, We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at OGF 44, coming up May 21-22 at the EGI Conference taking place that entire week (May 18-22) in Lisbon, Portugal. This will be a dynamic, active event engaging with the EGI community and will include a Cloud Plugfest. Looking ahead, there will be opportunities for OGF group to meet at several upcoming events of interest, including XSEDE 2015 July 26-30 in St. Louis (USA) and at other locations in the summer/fall/winter 2015 time frame. For example, we had successful Cloud Plugfest and OGF group meetings at the FAS*/CAC conference inLondon in September 2014, which will be held in Boston this year also in September, and have been invited to do similar activities at the UCC 2015 conference in Cyprus in December 2015, and the OGF NSI group is planning to meet with GLIF at their meeting at the end of September 2015 in Prague. Dear OGF group members and participants and interested parties: Please see the important message below from Tiziana Ferrari, the EGI.eu Technical Director, announcing an extension of the early bird deadline for registration to the EGI Conference 2015 in Lisbon. The conference runs Monday 18 May through Friday 22 May 2015 and will include two days of OGF meetings, possibly to include a Cloud Plugfest, on 21 and 22 May. The venue is attractive and the costs of attendance are low, and the opportunity to engage with EGI as it enters its new phase of recently funded work should be fascinating. We really hope that all of our colleagues will take the time to attend and will register as soon as possible in order to lock in the best possible rate for attending. Details of the OGF meeting including a Call for Session Proposals are located at the OGF 44 web pages at the following link(*). I hope in particular that the OCCI, NSI, GLUE and other active groups will take the opportunity to coordinate considerable work at this event. Call for Session Requests for OGF 44, May 21-22 2015 and options for future events

Dear OGF community members and participants, We had a great time at the mostly-NSI plus a other sessions OGF 43 last week! The interactions with the GENI, GLIF and US Ignite organizers were very positive and I believe NSI will also be planning to schedule sessions at OGF 44 in Lisbon May 21-22. They are also discussing a late September meeting in Prague, joint again with GLIF. Our next gathering of all groups is OGF 44, 21-22 May 2015 at the EGI Conference taking place all that week in Lisbon Portugal. Dear colleagues, We are seeing a very satisfying turnout for the NSI and networking discussions to take place along with the GLIF Techs meeting March 25-27 as co-located events with the GENI Engineering Conference March 23-26 in Crystal City, Virginia. There is somewhat less turnout for other group meetings. If you plan to attend or would like to make use of the session time we have available, please contact me or send a message to standards(a)ogf.org<mailto:standards@ogf.org> or events(a)ogf.org<mailto:events@ogf.org> right away! We have topics that we would like to cover, and the sessions can be used to coordinate mostly-remote meetings if that is the best way to make use of the time available. We do have sessions planned on RESTful API design, on security (authentication and authorization) for software defined and virtualized networks, and on other topics. Announcement: Daffodil 1.0 Release

Dear OGF community members, Please see the announcement below to the DFDL mailing list of general availability of v1.0.0 of the open source Daffodil implementation of OGF's Data Format Description Language (DFDL, http://www.ogf.org/documents/GFD.207.pdf) The DFDL group has been busy publishing not only this updated version of the DFDL spec, but also a set of useful experience documents, GFD.214, GFD.215 and GFD.216 just published. If you have not yet had the opportunity to try out DFDL in person, please read the description on that link in the "Standards" section of the OGF web site or directly at https://ogf.org/dfdl/ for a tutorial and background information. Daffodil joins the commercial implementations of DFDL that are already built into products by IBM. There is also a useful and growing set of public schemas for DFDL available on GitHub at https://github.com/DFDLSchemas for a variety of commercial and scientific data formats including vCard, PCAP packet capture, electronic payment system and transaction log formats, military and health care records formats. M. Beckerle, via DFDL-WG. Abstract: This document provides experience information to the OGF community on the original Data Format Description Language (DFDL) 1.0 specification (GFD-P-R.174). Modeling a MIL-STD-2045 header in DFDL v1.0 is not possible without the addition of new capabilities for specifying bit order and non-standard encodings. There are many related military- standard binary data formats which are similar, and so cannot be modeled in DFDL. This document describes the new properties and property values that are required to successfully model this format.
