This document shows how to implement a Grid Information Retrieval (GIR) system using VO and security mechanisms provided by Globus toolkit 3.0, and shows how GIR system scalability and security can be improved for dynamic VOs. Opportunities for Telco's include: 1) specializing in network SLAs that are optimally suited to Grids; 2) using Grids for their IT internal needs; and/or 3) offering Grids as a managed service to customers. Abstract Several kinds of network devices like Firewalls are used to protect an institutional network against malicious attacks from the public Internet. This document enumerates and illustrates a selected set of grid scenarios that encounter some issues when dealing with firewall types of devices. The knowledge and experience gathered through these use-cases is utilized to classify the issues into homogeneous categories that can be used by grid application developers and management personnel as guidance. These categories will be used to propose new or recommend existing academic and/or standards based solutions to the grid community.

[Apologies if you received duplicates of this email] Call for Participation The 19th Open Grid Forum - OGF19 January 29-February 2, 2007 Chapel Hill, NC USA OGF is comprised of a number of "communities of interest" who either are users of grids in their domain or develop innovative approaches to perceived roadblocks to the adoption of grids or grid research. The OGF19 Program seeks to build new and strengthen existing communities of interest in OGF including eScience and enterprise. The OGF19 Program will offer a series of 30-90 minute talks and panels emphasizing the applications and operations of grids in research and commercial contexts. It will also consist of half and full-day research workshops of standards-based implementations of grid software. While there are no formal publication requirements, publications in the form of OGF Informational Documents, journal articles/special or equivalent are encouraged and all session organizers are required to submit materials (including slides) for inclusion on the OGF web pages prior to the event. These program activities may run in parallel with other OGF activities (such as standards sessions) but every attempt will be made in scheduling to minimize unnecessary clashes. Proposals are now being accepted for the OGF19 Program. Only proposals submitted online prior to 17 November will be considered. You can download it here: http://www.ogf.org/gf/docs/?final Title: Grid Information Retrieval System for Dynamically Reconfigurable Virtual Organization Authors/editors: Yangwoo Kim Abstract: Under foundational precepts of Grid computing, two important requirements that all Grid application systems should satisfy are to accommodate the dynamic nature of Virtual Organizations (VOs), and to enforce different levels of security among different VOs. For the research described in this document, we developed two different use-case scenarios addressing the two requirements, and then showed how the requirements can be met by implementing a Grid information retrieval (GIR) system prototype. The dynamic nature of VO applies not only to increasing and decreasing number of users, but also to the dynamically changing requirement of computing power among the different subcomponents that consist in overall system configuration. This implies that a request to increase computing power by a certain subcomponent can be satisfied by other idling subcomponents taking advantage of overall system flexibility. This document describes how we implemented a Grid IR system using VO and security mechanisms provided by Globus toolkit 3.0, and shows how GIR system scalability and security can be improved for dynamic VOs. In order to manage different VOs, we implemented VO management service (VOMS), and registered it to Globus as an additional service.

These positions arise from the normal process of term of office expiry, resignations and from the transition from the GGF and EGA to the merged OGF where previous Area Directors have moved to other leadership positions. This is a new call for nominations with new open positions. This call offers an opportunity to become part of the new OGF leadership team and to contribute to the early development of the new organisation. All members of the OGF are eligible to stand for these positions and are encouraged to do so.
