We discussed the draft OGSA-D charter on today's design team call. You can find the minutes at http://tinyurl.com/3tjqa . I attach a revised version of the charter and the (unchanged) answers to the seven questions. One process question raised today is, if the OGSA-D WG were to produce a data profile recommendation document, what would be the process for issuing it as an OGSA profile? Would a document from the OGSA-D WG have the status of an OGSA profile (assuming that the OGSA WG agreed to it)? Or would the OGSA-D WG submit the document to the OGSA WG for formal release? However, I don't know what the basic data profile looks like. Even though this WG will develop the basic data profile in the near future, I prefer not give a charter for profile development at this moment. I expect this WG will get clear outline of the date profile within a couple of months and then define the profile, deliberate within OGSA-D WG and with OGSA-WG and propose re-charter of OGSA-D to GFSG. Although it is overhead, but I think this procedure will guarantee necessary consistency between OGSA-WG and OGSA-D WG. #1321: Discovery of key-info for encryption in message level security Service Group Profile/ EPR embedding Use cases: When a client wants to send any encrypted message to a service, it will have to know the key associated with that service. When a client wants to make a policy decision whether or not it wants a certain service to serve its request, it has to know the service's key-info. Considerations: We have to assume that WS-I or some other organization will get its act together in the future to define a standardized profile for the embedding of the service's key-info in the EPR, and that that profile will then be supported by all vendors world-wide. Unfortunately, we cannot expect this to happen on any time scale that can accommodate our upcoming releases and Grid deployments in the near future. In order for our different implementation to talk to each other securely, we have to have agreements in place about where one party will put the key-info such that another party can find it. So we need to have a solution in place "now", no matter what, and we have to be prepared to change that method to the standardized one once it becomes available. This means that we will have to implement this (at least) twice. But note again that there is no alternative - we have to live with this. It may be politically better, however, to use words like "tactical-agreement" instead of "standard" for whatever method we choose, in order to emphasize that we are committed to follow what ever comes out of WS-I and friends over time. Hi all, GFSG asks me to send out revised OGSA-ByteIO WG charter draft to OGSA-WG mailing list for your review. Two WGs should be consistent and WG charter is binding document to materialize it. Please read them carefully and let me know if you have any comments. Since GFSG will approve this WG on next Tuesday at earliest, yours comment should be made by next Monday. If necessary, we can discuss this topic at Monday call. The following is my comments. Hiro, I am concerned about the data profile, in two different ways: 1 - I want to see work begin on this 2 - I don't want to commit to work that I can't deliver The second of these argues strongly in favour of your suggestion. However, I don't want the work to "drop off the radar". Perhaps someone in the data area can start twisting a few arms in the hope of finding a volunteer?
