Dear all, Thank you Augusto for organizing this session. I would propose an official OCCI discussion to be announced during this session. I have no doubt such discussion will appear informally during the conference but for funding/administrative purpose, it would greatly help to have it officially announced, and maybe let some people join who could not otherwise. Is there a need for the OCCI-WG or its members and participants (or a community group focused on OCCI implementations) to meet at CLOSER 2016? OGF could pay for meeting rooms and.or offer a small co-sponsorship of the conference to cover the reasonable costs of such a meeting if so. We don’t have a lot of money for such things and try to spend it carefully, but meetings of OGF groups that are well attended at topical conference is one way that we try to use it and is possible under special circumstances. Given the pending release of OCCI 1.2, I think that a meeting on OCCI 1.2 implementations would be well in scope and is something that we can consider. We have a two-hours session scheduled during the conference: it is our session, and we can organize it in the way that better fits our needs, provided that the four scheduled talks take place. For instance, if we reduce the length of the presentations to 20 minutes (instead of 30), 40 minutes are left for discussion, briefing or whatever. Also, I am rather confident that Closer would be happy to allow the utilization of the same room for an extended time slot (thought I'd need to check and ask for this). So there is really the opportunity to capitalize on this Special Session: we just need a widely agreed definition and purpose for the additional activity that we want to carry out (agenda). It would be great if this could help the delivery of the pending documents (OCCI 1.2 and monitoring). A formal announcement, according with Jean's suggestion, should be based on a work plan: is there any plan of this sort? Can we envision a further meeting to be formally announced during the Session? Review of OCCI 1.2 -- summary, late feedback, status of documents, discussion on changes which didn't get into OCCI 1.2 2.) Implementations of OCCI 1.2 -- short & long term plans, forseeable challenges, project roadmaps 3.) Extending OCCI's query interface -- in-depth discussion on query interface extensions, multi-location set-ups, advertising endpoints, etc. 4.) Towards OCCI 2.0 -- plans for the future, preliminary discussions, roadmap 5.) Filtering in OCCI -- this discussion is long overdue :-) 6.) Transport protocol extensions -- perhaps AMQP, any other ideas? 7.) Rendering extensions -- for the next release, we should finally get XML into the standard What do you think? Any other ideas? Something to remove/add?
Can we envision a further meeting to be formally announced during the Session?

We don't have anything specific yet, but I have a few suggestions. If we can agree on some of them or perhaps add new ones, we should have enough for an OCCI WG meeting.
1.) Review of OCCI 1.2 -- summary, late feedback, status of documents, discussion on changes which didn't get into OCCI 1.2
FYI, the documetn set is still in final review by the GFSG. There is time to get final changes in before it is published.
2.) Implementations of OCCI 1.2 -- short & long term plans, forseeable challenges, project roadmaps 3.) Extending OCCI's query interface -- in-depth discussion on query interface extensions, multi-location set-ups, advertising endpoints, etc. 4.) Towards OCCI 2.0 -- plans for the future, preliminary discussions, roadmap 5.) Filtering in OCCI -- this discussion is long overdue :-) 6.) Transport protocol extensions -- perhaps AMQP, any other ideas? 7.) Rendering extensions -- for the next release, we should finally get XML into the standard

The selected papers are the following:
Evolution of The Open Cloud Computing Interface, by Boris Parak et al.
Easing Scientific Computing and Federated Management in the Cloud with OCCI, by Zdenek Šustr et al.
SLAaaS: an OCCI compliant framework for cloud SLA provisioning and violation detection, by G. Katsaros et al.

The Closer secretariat confirms the availability of the same room used for the special session until 19:00, so that we have one additional hour for an OGF-labelled session. This way we facilitate the attendance of people interested though not directly involved in OCCI. I'd concentrate in this time slot the discussions and briefs that are not too technical, and that give a perspective of OCCI activity. We can arrange a further (or even preliminary) meeting to discuss more technical issues: I guess we have plenty of places where to meet, and in case I'll ask for further availability to Closer. As for financial issues, the secretariat pointed out that the participants need to register to the main conference. No words about a financial participation of OGF. I asked if this was appropriate, but the reply was that the participants need to register, nothing else. So, if OGF wants to help the participants... We don't have anything specific yet, but I have a few suggestions. If we can agree on some of them or perhaps add new ones, we should have enough for an OCCI WG meeting.
1.) Review of OCCI 1.2 -- summary, late feedback, status of documents, discussion on changes which didn't get into OCCI 1.2 2.) Implementations of OCCI 1.2 -- short & long term plans, forseeable challenges, project roadmaps
1-2 slides on OCCIware current status and roadmap.
3.) Extending OCCI's query interface -- in-depth discussion on query interface extensions, multi-location set-ups, advertising endpoints, etc. 4.) Towards OCCI 2.0 -- plans for the future, preliminary discussions, roadmap
Some inputs on that: * attributes types refinment * possible links with OpenAPI / Swagger ?
5.) Filtering in OCCI -- this discussion is long overdue :-) 6.) Transport protocol extensions -- perhaps AMQP, any other ideas? 7.) Rendering extensions -- for the next release, we should finally get XML into the standard
I've initiated that, I can present status, evolutions, ...

Can we envision a further meeting to be formally announced during the Session?

Dear members of the occi-wg maillist,
this is to finalize the details about the Special Session about OCCI at CLOSER 2016, to be held in Rome (Italy), 23-25 April. The Program Committee selected 4 papers out of 6 that were submitted, and the authors will present their work on the second day of the Conference. The exact time of the presentations is still to be finalized.
Beyond Nagios - Design of a cloud monitoring system (Augusto Ciuffoletti)
It is my hope that this event will extend the reach of the OCCI principles to new people, especially researchers. Those of you that are going to participate to CLOSER are warmly invited to participate to the event to get in touch and reinforce a network.

The tentative agenda of the extended special session follows. The time slots reserved to the four Closer presentations have been reduced to 25 minutes, and thus we have time for two slots of 20 minutes each for occi 1.2 review and implementations, and one 5 minutes slot for 2.0 perspectives. Hi Augusto, Thanks for this information. A couple of points and observations are below. 1) When I suggested a special session for an OCCI WG meeting, it was with the idea in mind that of course OGF sessions that result in contributions to documents need to be run according to OGF IP rules, with sign-in sheets and acknowledgement forms etc. in order to protect the integrity of the IP process that produces these documents. Hence these are usually extra, separate sessions that are not mixed with conference sessions. 2) Thijs has separately clarified that the OCCI 1.2 document set is considered complete, and I believe that it is in front of the OGF GFSG now for final review. Jens can clarify its exact status. If there are any changes that are needed to this document set before publication, we need to know right away. My suggestion for an implementation community group would be to gather people together specifically around the idea of promoting progress on OCCI 1.2 implementations as rapidly as possible to take advantage of the recent document work. Of course, people are welcome to present conference papers and talks as they like, but I was hoping to encourage a more coordinated effort. Please let us know if you need OGF sign-in sheets for a document-oriented meeting for the items proposed by Boris, and if it will be possible to arrange a special session to focus on this (or on the community implementation group) beyond the papers at the conference itself. Hi Augusto,
Thanks for this information.
AFAIK, there are no changes to existing documents and the review process can continue. If Jens could provide a brief update on the status of the final review, that would be great.

At the end, we have time for an open discussion before closing.
16:00 - Introduction of the special session - Augusto 16:05 - #1 Evolution of The Open Cloud Computing Interface, by Boris Parak et al.

(5' brief) 18:30 - Open discussion 19:00 - Extended special session close
The three OGF talks (together with the four paper presentations) should improve the outreach of OCCI. The final open discussion should help to finalize the submitted documents.
Many items among those suggested by Jean and Boris are not scheduled. The inventory: -) discussion on changes which didn't get into OCCI 1.2 -) Extending OCCI's query interface -- in-depth discussion on query interface extensions, multi-location set-ups, advertising endpoints, etc. -) Towards OCCI 2.0 -- preliminary discussions, roadmap -) Filtering in OCCI -- this discussion is long overdue :-) -) Transport protocol extensions -- perhaps AMQP, any other ideas? -) Rendering extensions -- for the next release, we should finally get XML into the standard -) OpenAPI/Swagger
Some of them are challenging and urgent, but I think that now we should really focus on closing the 1.2 documents, and consider them as building blocks.

In the next week we will try to finalize the agenda using the info provided by Jean, Boris, and by all those that have not yet replied. I'd like to have a word about that from Andy and Thijs.

Hi Augusto,
Thanks for this information.

Hi all,
so we have the final schedule of the OCCI Special Session at Closer:
http://closer.scitevents.org/TechnicalProgram/View/TechnicalProgram.aspx
On April 24th, besides the four conference papers, we plan to have informal briefs about OCCI developments by Boris Parak, Jean Parpaillon and myself, as well as some time for discussion: the session has been extended until 18:45. The day after, April 25th, we have a further session to discuss technical aspects from 10:15 to 12:15. The agenda for this day will be defined on the 24th.
Thank you!
See you in Rome!

Alan and all,
I understand your point: in fact, the extended session we are about provides a place for informal discussion, and to take advantage of a conference to improve the outreach. Boris and Jean are available to help me, and this is encouraging. I am glad to know that the documents are in their final form: I misinterpreted a sentence in one of previous emails.
Wolfgang, the session is scheduled on April 24th, from 16:00 to 19:00.

Hi Augusto,
Thanks for this information.

The tentative agenda of the extended special session follows. The time slots reserved to the four Closer presentations have been reduced to 25 minutes, and thus we have time for two slots of 20 minutes each for occi 1.2 review and implementations, and one 5 minutes slot for 2.0 perspectives. At the end, we have time for an open discussion before closing.
16:00 - Introduction of the special session - Augusto 16:05 - #1 Evolution of The Open Cloud Computing Interface, by Boris Parak et al.
16:30 - #2 Easing Scientific Computing and Federated Management in the Cloud with OCCI, by Zdenek Šustr et al_._
16:55 - #3 SLAaaS: an OCCI compliant framework for cloud SLA provisioning and violation detection, by G. Katsaros et al.
17:20 - #4 Beyond Nagios - Design of a cloud monitoring system, by Augusto Ciuffoletti 17:45 - ogf#1 review of OCCI 1.2 - summary, status of documents, feedback (Boris?) (10' brief + 10' discussion) 18:05 - ogf#2 Implementations of OCCI 1.2: short & long term plans, foresee-able challenges, project road-maps, OCCIware project (Jean?) (10' brief +10' discussion) 18:25 - ogf#3 Perspective on OCCI 2.0: XML rendering, filtering, transport, attribute types refinement (Augusto?) (5' brief) 18:30 - Open discussion 19:00 - Extended special session close

In the next week we will try to finalize the agenda using the info provided by Jean, Boris, and by all those that have not yet replied. I'd like to have a word about that from Andy and Thijs.

Regards, Jean
What do you think? Any other ideas? Something to remove/add?
Can we envision a further meeting to be formally announced during the Session?

Hi Augusto,
Thanks for this information. A couple of points and observations are below.
1) When I suggested a special session for an OCCI WG meeting, it was with the idea in mind that of course OGF sessions that result in contributions to documents need to be run according to OGF IP rules, with sign-in sheets and acknowledgement forms etc. in order to protect the integrity of
IP process that produces these documents.
My suggestion for an implementation community group would be to gather people together specifically around the idea of promoting progress on OCCI 1.2 implementations as rapidly as possible to take advantage of
recent document work. Of course, people are welcome to present conference papers and talks as they like, but I was hoping to encourage a more coordinated effort.
Please let us know if you need OGF sign-in sheets for a document-oriented meeting for the items proposed by Boris, and if it will be
to arrange a special session to focus on this (or on the community implementation group) beyond the papers at the conference itself.

Hi all,
so we have the final schedule of the OCCI Special Session at Closer:
http://closer.scitevents.org/TechnicalProgram/View/TechnicalProgram.aspx
On April 24th, besides the four conference papers, we plan to have
informal
briefs about OCCI developments by Boris Parak, Jean Parpaillon and myself, as well as some time for discussion: the session has been extended until 18:45. The day after, April 25th, we have a further session to discuss technical aspects from 10:15 to 12:15. The agenda for this day will be defined on the 24th.
Thank you!
See you in Rome!

Alan and all,
I understand your point: in fact, the extended session we are about provides a place for informal discussion, and to take advantage of a conference

Wolfgang, the session is scheduled on April 24th, from 16:00 to 19:00.

Hi Augusto,
Thanks for this information.
My suggestion for an implementation community group would be to gather people together specifically around the idea of promoting
on OCCI 1.2 implementations as rapidly as possible to take advantage of
recent document work.

The tentative agenda of the extended special session follows.
The
time slots reserved to the four Closer presentations have been reduced to 25 minutes, and thus we have time for two slots of 20 minutes each for occi 1.2 review and implementations, and one 5 minutes slot for 2.0 perspectives.
17:20 - #4 Beyond Nagios - Design of a cloud monitoring system, by Augusto Ciuffoletti 17:45 - ogf#1 review of OCCI 1.2 - summary, status of documents, feedback (Boris?) (10' brief + 10' discussion) 18:05 - ogf#2 Implementations of OCCI 1.2: short & long term
foresee-able challenges, project road-maps, OCCIware project (Jean?) (10' brief +10' discussion) 18:25 - ogf#3 Perspective on OCCI 2.0: XML rendering, filtering, transport, attribute types refinement (Augusto?) (5' brief) 18:30 - Open discussion 19:00 - Extended special session close
The three OGF talks (together with the four paper presentations) should improve the outreach of OCCI. The final open discussion should help to finalize the submitted documents.
Many items among those suggested by Jean and Boris are not scheduled. The inventory: -) discussion on changes which didn't get into OCCI 1.2 -) Extending OCCI's query interface -- in-depth discussion on
query
interface extensions, multi-location set-ups, advertising endpoints, etc. -) Towards OCCI 2.0 -- preliminary discussions, roadmap -) Filtering in OCCI -- this discussion is long overdue :-) -) Transport protocol extensions -- perhaps AMQP, any other
ideas?
-) Rendering extensions -- for the next release, we should
finally
get XML into the standard -) OpenAPI/Swagger
Some of them are challenging and urgent, but I think that now we should really focus on closing the 1.2 documents, and consider them as building blocks.

The Closer secretariat confirms the availability of the same room used for the special session until 19:00, so that we have one additional hour for an OGF-labelled session. This way we facilitate the attendance of people interested though not directly
involved in
OCCI.
As for financial issues, the secretariat pointed out that
participants need to register to the main conference. No
words
about a financial participation of OGF. I asked if this was appropriate, but the reply was that the participants need to register, nothing else. So, if OGF wants to help the participants...
In the next week we will try to finalize the agenda using
info provided by Jean, Boris, and by all those that have not yet replied. I'd like to have a word about that from Andy and Thijs.

Would it be possible to prepare a summary document, like a rapporteur's document or other similar summary, to put out s an OGF informational document at this time? I have a student who recently finished a Master's degree project on OCCI-CIMI-(OpenStack)Nova comparisons that many of you commented on that we plan to put out as an informational document in this spirit also. I think the more that we can do to make it easy to find p[practical information on OCCI implementations for general consumption, the better. This seems like a good opportunity. Hi all,
so we have the final schedule of the OCCI Special Session at Closer:
http://closer.scitevents.org/TechnicalProgram/View/TechnicalProgram.aspx
On April 24th, besides the four conference papers, we plan to have informal briefs about OCCI developments by Boris Parak, Jean Parpaillon and myself, as well as some time for discussion: the session has been extended until 18:45. The day after, April 25th, we have a further session to discuss technical aspects from 10:15 to 12:15. The agenda for this day will be defined on the 24th.
Thank you!
See you in Rome!
See you there.

Dear all,
there will be a special session dedicated to OCCI during the "Closer 2016" conference that will take place in Rome, near to the end of April. The session is intended to gather results and proposals about the Open Cloud Computing Interface: adoption stories are specifically appreciated, but also proposals for extensions, new applications and tools.

Hi Boris, Augusto, Enol, I am attending the Closer conference an would participate in the OCCI extended special session. However, I couldn't figure out the day of the conference the session takes place. Can you please let me know? Best regards Wolfgang Am 22.03.16 um 16:24 schrieb Boris Parak:

The tentative agenda of the extended special session follows. The time slots reserved to the four Closer presentations have been reduced to 25 minutes, and thus we have time for two slots of 20 minutes each for occi 1.2 review and implementations, and one 5 minutes slot for 2.0 perspectives. At the end, we have time for an open discussion before closing.
16:00 - Introduction of the special session - Augusto 16:05 - #1 Evolution of The Open Cloud Computing Interface, by Boris Parak et al.
16:30 - #2 Easing Scientific Computing and Federated Management in the Cloud with OCCI, by Zdenek Šustr et al.
16:55 - #3 SLAaaS: an OCCI compliant framework for cloud SLA provisioning and violation detection, by G. Katsaros et al.
17:20 - #4 Beyond Nagios - Design of a cloud monitoring system, by Augusto Ciuffoletti 17:45 - ogf#1 review of OCCI 1.2 - summary, status of documents, feedback (Boris?) (10' brief + 10' discussion) 18:05 - ogf#2 Implementations of OCCI 1.2: short & long term plans, foresee-able challenges, project road-maps, OCCIware project (Jean?) (10' brief +10' discussion) 18:25 - ogf#3 Perspective on OCCI 2.0: XML rendering, filtering, transport, attribute types refinement (Augusto?) (5' brief) 18:30 - Open discussion 19:00 - Extended special session close
Thank you for taking care of this!
The three OGF talks (together with the four paper presentations) should improve the outreach of OCCI. The final open discussion should help to finalize the submitted documents.
As Alan already mentioned, the documents have been submitted for the final review. These session(s) will probably be more retrospective, focused on collecting feedback for the future, informing everyone not directly involved about changes etc. If everyone is OK with that.

In the next week we will try to finalize the agenda using the info provided by Jean, Boris, and by all those that have not yet replied. I'd like to have a word about that from Andy and Thijs.

Regards, Jean
What do you think? Any other ideas? Something to remove/add?
Can we envision a further meeting to be formally announced during the Session?

Cheers, Jean

Dear members of the occi-wg maillist,
this is to finalize the details about the Special Session about OCCI at CLOSER 2016, to be held in Rome (Italy), 23-25 April. The Program Committee selected 4 papers out of 6 that were submitted, and the authors will present their work on the second day of the Conference. The exact time of the presentations is still to be finalized.
