Foreign markup and extensibility

Morning all, Rather than try to define everything that could possibly occur (ala CIM) we decided a while back to use "open" registries which allow the specification to evolve over time. Anyone will be able to propose additions via a process TBD (e.g. rough consensus on a public list, dedicated expert, first in first served, etc.) and will either get them (or not) within 7-30 days. Additionally we will require implementations to forward and ignore markup they don't understand - as opposed to stripping it or throwing errors. This works well for Atom which uses this wording<http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4287#section-6.3> : 6.3. Processing Foreign Markup Atom Processors that encounter foreign markup in a location that is legal according to this specification MUST NOT stop processing or signal an error. It might be the case that the Atom Processor is able to process the foreign markup correctly and does so. Otherwise, such markup is termed "unknown foreign markup". When unknown foreign markup is encountered as a child of atom:entry, atom:feed, or a Person construct, Atom Processors MAY bypass the markup and any textual content and MUST NOT change their behavior as a result of the markup's presence. When unknown foreign markup is encountered in a Text Construct or atom:content element, software SHOULD ignore the markup and process any text content of foreign elements as though the surrounding markup were not present. What happened to occi-infrastructure ?

Hi, I just down loaded the occi-infrastructure. I have some concerns with the changes. 1) Networking: Critical network attributes, gateway and netmask, have been removed. 2) Networking: I don't remember any discussion or consensus on removing these attributes. 3) Storage: Storage/disk speed was added to the attributes. We had discussed and gained consensus early on NOT to include quality of service metrics like storage performance 4) Storage: References to wikipedia has been added as informative reference. Wikipedia is not qualified reference, especially for storage of storage quality of service. This should be stricken front the document. cheers, gary

Changes to the occi-infrastructure.xml

Hi I just wanted to let everyone know I committed changes to the storage section of the occi-infrastructure.xml The changes included the proposed changes emailed to the group on 9/22/2009 11:47 PM There was the addition of a "class" attribute with enumerated values "volatile" and "maintained". The attribute was included to define a storage based on amazon's compute model where data on storage can disappear as soon as the VM is switched "off" even though the VM is still configured. Thanks to Richard Davies for bringing that to our attention. :-) Also a normative modification was made to the attribute tables. I added a column indicating whether attributes are Mandatory or Optional. cheers gary
