New draft of DFDL primer

Greetings, I have been plugging away on the primer document. There are still major holes which await development of the specification and/or input from others. Present: ======= Martin Westhead Geoff Judd Robert McGrath Mike Beckerle Reports on action items from the F2F: =========================== * Extensibility [MB] Mike had an action to pass out to th group a summary of the work IBM has done on extensibility. Wrapping this up turned out to be non-trivial. Mike is concerned that extensibility is a research level issue not ready standardization. This is clearly a concern. The proposal is that a subgroup should take the extensibility issues to one or more concrete proposals. There is already a tracker in place for this activity. The current team against this tracker is: Martin, Tara, Mike, Jim and Bob. * Scoping write-up [MB] - still outstanding * Properties list reconciliation [MB] - Mike will revise that stuff (lower priority) * Break up of properties into groups [MB]- this will happen when the properties list is reconciled. * Charter [MW] New charter has been approved by the group and submitted to the GGF. Issues List ======== * Resolved issues 28, 29,32 and 33 * Discussion should restart from issue 34

Revised charter

I have put up the revised charter proposal at: https://forge.gridforum.org/projects/dfdl-wg/document/DraftRevisedCharte r/en/1 Part of the aim here was minimum changes. I have basically updated contact information and changed the document descriptions and milestones in accordance with our discussion at the F2F. The rest I left because it did not seem to have changed in any important ways. If you spot any problems please let me know by the end of the week. If there's nothing unresolved I will submit it to GGF on Friday. Thanks, Martin

The building housing the Richland DoE switchboard was flooded this morning. Since the operators didn't have access, there was no one to set up the calls. They are scheduled to have a replacement location by 10am (pacific) but that's too late for the group. Hopefully there won't be another "flood" in the middle of the desert next week! Alan

F2F telecon sessions on Wednesday

We'd like to review some things from our F2F meetings with the broader dfdl-wg on wednesday. If we can start at roughly 11am Eastern (UTC-4 hours) that would give us ability to have possibilities for calls from Steve Hanson and from Martin Westhead who are 7 hours apart. Topics are: Scoping - report on discussions by Suman, Mike, Geoff Layers - report on discussions by Jim, Tara, Bob After that we do need to spend some time on process topics including updating our charter/plan. Martin Westhead will lead this. Please try to call in to the number listed as home/mobile office below (or skype to mbeckerle if you have skype) starting at 11am.
