Mike Already had the session which was a bit of a disappointment as only 4 attendees. No new volunteers to join the group Here are the notes from the session Hi Alan, attached are the meeting notes - please let me know if you have any questions. As for feedback from the scientific data format front: as said, I'd propose to actively approach some of the groups working on scientific data formats. Attached is revised "facets" document based on discussion in the meeting. Meeting friday on defaults/nulls/optionals. Also discussed: OGF upcoming meeting - alan going - goals for this are - udpate on our progress and recruiting. Also discussed: XPath 2.0 - spec is so huge it makes an excess burden for DFDL implementations if we say our expression language is all of Xpath 2.0. Can we subset it? E.g., XPath 2.0 language constructs, but with the smaller XPath 1.0 function library? This is not enough as we want to avoid even some language things e.g., we don't need the iteration constructs. What else? Agreed that the most critical thing is that our path language is consistent with XPath 2.0 semantics. Alan writing up a proposal. Weekly call on 10/3

Hi everyone, The agenda for the call on 10/3 is to review as much as we can the two proposals circulated last week. 1) proposal on facets, min/maxOccurs, default, fixed (the end of this proposal poses a question w.r.t. the 'fixed' attribute that I'd like people to weigh-in on) 2) null, default, optional simplification proposal - depends on (1). As I sent the two proposal docs last week, I won't bother re-attaching them here (imagine the carbon footprint of big email attachments!). If you are unable to find them in your email stream, I can send them to you individually again. Based on how far we get (I'm sure we won't finish) I'd like to schedule another hour or possibly 90 minute WG call for thursday or friday this week. Suggestions for times: Thursday 9am EDT, 10am EDT, 11am EDT Friday: 10am EDT, 11am EDT, noon. If you would like to participate, please reply to me separately about which of these times works best for you. I have been lurking on this list for some time but I realise that there is a related piece of work, namely DRB - see http://www.gael.fr/drb/site/ - which I should bring to your attention. It has been developed by the company Gael and is used by the European Space Agency (ESA), but I believe it will shortly be, or may already be, open source. ...David

This came up as a subtopic of the defaults/optionals/nulls, etc. work. I have mistakenly been referring to xs:fixed as a facet. it is not, nor are xs:default, xs:minOccurs, xs:maxOccurs. Of particular interest is the semantics of the 'fixed' attribute, which is last in the doc. I picked one of 3 possible meanings, but described the other two also.
