APPS-RG will meet Wednesday, October 5 from 2-3:30 Agenda: - opening, IPR issues, agenda bashing - keynote talk by Reagan Moore (SDSC) on Developing data intensive applications with SRB (very tentative title) - report on the workshop held at GGF14 - proposal for merging APPS-RG and UPDT-RG - plans for GGF16 and beyond I hope to see you all in Boston! GGF15 planning

Dear all, having got no response to my previous mail, I assume there is consensus NOT to have a workshop at GGF15. (and by now, I assume, it is too late to organize one) GGF office just sent out a call for session scheduling requests, so it is time to think about what APPS-RG wants to do at GGF15. My suggestion would be to have one 90 minute session. Besides the 'water cooler' discussion, any other suggestions what we should discuss in Seattle? (No) applications workshop at GGF15 (Boston) ?

Dear all, looks like there is not much enthusiasm towards having another applications workshop during Gridworld/GGF15 in Boston. (Or did I miss a point?) Also, IF GGF15 is supposed to have a community program with a lot of events (as Geoffrey Fox keeps saying), then we may run into a lot of competition for time slots and venues where authors submit papers to. My current (personal) feeling is that I would prefer skipping GGF15 for the workshop part, and have some other "normal" session for application developers and users to meet. Any opinions on this? APPS-RG session at GGF14, 29/06/2005, 18:00-19:30, room Regent 1 session chair: Tom Hinke note taker: Thilo Kielmann Agenda: - Welcome, opening, IPR issues - Feedback on APPS workshop - Discussion of future APPS workshops - Presentation: Identifying and Fostering Applications on a Multipurpose Grid Mary Fran Yafchak, Southeastern Universities Research Association and Art Vandenberg, Georgia State University - Open microphone round (general discussion): "Current issues of grid application developing and deployment?" - Adjourn Opening: Tom Hinke gives a brief introduction to APPS-RG (using highlights from the charter) Feedback on the APPS workshop Tom Hinke shows the list of presented papers, the overall scope, and those papers invited for journal invitation in the Journal of Grid Computing Feedback by the audience: - the workshop was perceived well - Possibly, there should be (even) more time for discussion next time(s). - Maybe have draft slides(?) available online beforehand, point people to look into to prepare themselves for the dicussion. - Publish discussion topic/questions beforehand to the speakers - Ask presenters to give context (small/large systems, numbers of job/files, staffing, costs, ...) Discussion of future APPS workshops (e.g., ggf15) topic search: - industry apps contacting industry apps: enterprise research group sponsors, Steve Crumb (ggf operations) ggf15 pc - managing large scale operations - from early adopters to mainstream use - measuring the benefits from grid-enabling - 'eye opening applications' from various (not just industry) apps? No final decision on a workshop topic for ggf15 has been taken yet. Update on GGF14 workshop

All, the number of registrations to our workshop has exceeded 60, so we have been moved to a larger room within the Westin (the Mayfair room). This certainly is great news!
