MacAuley, C. Guok, via NSI-WG. Abstract: This document describes the Connection Service v2.0, which is one of a suite of services that make up the Network Service Interface (NSI). The NSI is a web-service based API that operates between a requester software agent and a provider software agent. The full suite of NSI services allows an application or network provider to request and manage circuit service instances. Apart from the Connection Service these include the Topology Service and the Discovery Service. The complete set of NSI services is described in the Network Services Framework v2.0. This Connection Service document describes the protocol, state machine, architecture and associated processes and environment in which software agents interact to deliver a Connection. Early notice re. session proposals for OGF 42 at CAC 2014 Sep. 8-12 in London

Dear OGF members and participants, As mentioned earlier, we are planning to hold OGF 42 split across two different related conferences in Europe and the UK in September, the first and main portion of which will be held during and as part of the Cloud and Autonomic Computing conference 8-12 Sep 2014 at Imperial College in London. (The second portion of this will be meetings of the networking groups, in particular the NSI-WG, at the NorduNet conference later in the month.) We do expect the majority of our active working groups will want to meet at the CAC conference. The location is convenient and easy to get to; the conference is located at a university that is willing to accommodate our requests for working group meeting space, and the conference is also co-located with other interesting events for our community. In particular, this would be an excellent venue at which to discuss our work within OGF on federated security and access models and tools, and related topics oriented towards building participation from the community. Prior to this, OGF 41 will be incorporated into XSEDE 2014 in the USA July, as we previously mentioned. It is our hope that following this event reasonably closely with another event convenient to our community members in Europe will help stimulate additional work and meetings of current and prospective new OGF groups. BOF sessions will be entertained and welcome as usual. We encourage you to think about new activities to take place at both of these events in the spirit of the OGF charter and mission, which is to be an open community committed to driving the rapid evolution and adoption of applied distributed computing through open forums that build the community, explore trends, share best practices, document findings and consolidate these results into standards. We are committed to keeping OGF true to this mission as methods for accomplishing these goals evolve through natural technological advancement. In particular, the launch of the EGI Federated Cloud announced recently at the EGI Community Forum illustrates that the community that spawned OGF is still working to advance the forefront of applied distributed computing and to bring its efforts to bear fruitfully on problems of interest to our community. We encourage the organizers of the Federated Cloud and related community groups tackling problems of federated identity management, use of standards (including those from outside of OGF as well as those that we develop internally) as well as practical items of software and best practices, etc., to meet at OGF 42 and to take full advantage of the opportunities for extended group meetings including working sessions that this will provide. We also think this would be a great location for a meeting of the OCCI working group and related application groups that are being formed to exploit OGF work in this area. A formal call for session requests will be issued shortly. Meanwhile, please discuss this opportunity among your colleagues and consider forwarding any requests for special working group meetings, BOFs or other open sessions to us via your area directors or the GFSG, or directly to events(a)ogf.org or standards(a)ogf.org The link for the main conference for CAC 2014 is http://autonomic-conference.org Finally, let me mention that a nominating committee has recently been formed as a result of conversations at OGF 40 at Oxford, and will be recruiting nominations for specific positions in OGF shortly. OGF 41 Atlanta news: XSEDE14 hotel and registration rates extended

For those of you planning to come to OGF 41 at the XSEDE 2014 conference July 13-18 in Atlanta, please note that the hotel and registration dates have now been extended through June 27, as summarized in the announcement below. The schedule for the week is also online at http://xsede14.sched.org and includes five blocks of Open Grid Forum track sessions to occur on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings as well as afternoons and also Thursday morning. This should cover the session requests for working group, community group and BOF meetings received so far. The meetings that have been requested will be assigned among these time slots shortly. OGF colleagues, FYI, the editors of the Journal of Grid Computing requested a special issue some time ago on cloud computing federation, API development and associated topics, which has now been recruited, assembled, reviewed extensively and published. Many of the articles in this issue may be of interest to members of the OGF community, some of whom are authors. Thanks very much to my hard-working co-editor for this issue, Gabor Kecskemeti, for carrying much of the weight of assembling it and communicating on many associated details with the reviewers and authors. Dear OGF colleagues, Please take note of the XSEDE 2014 submission deadlines discussed below. Visualization Showcase abstracts, Birds of a Feather proposals and poster abstracts—including student poster abstracts—are due on April 21. Additionally, student travel grant applications are due the same day. In addition, please note that OGF has a Call for Session Proposals open at the OGF web site at the link below. While there is not an explicit deadline, we are under practical limitations to finalize our room requests and would for this reason appreciate receiving your working group and community group session requests as soon as possible. At this time, we anticipate receiving requests from the GLUE, JSDL, BES and other related working groups and expect to receive session proposals from groups in the Security and Data areas also, such as FedSec, Identity Delegation, CAOPS, etc. Other session requests and BOFs are welcome. OGF sites are not vulnerable to Heartbleed

OGF has tested its servers with respect to vulnerabilities related to CVE-2014-0160 (the now famous "Heartbleed" bug in certain OpenSSLversions) and has not found anything to be vulnerable directly in any of its services. Your access to ogf.org and to OGF working group support features and repositories on the OGF Redmine are and should remain to be OK with respect to the problems created by this bug.
