The notion of federation can be applied at any level in the system stack: from software-defined networks, to compute resources, to middleware services, to the highest application levels. Effective end-to-end federations will have to address all of these areas. Establishing trust among organizations will depend on how federated identity is managed, how resources access policies are decided and enforced, and even how network resources are configured on-demand to support trust relationships. Effectively addressing these issues will entail not only an enormous amount of technical work, but also an enormous amount of cultural adaptation to fully realize the benefits of cloud federation. New operational leadership appointments and nominations for remaining OGF area director positions

Dear community members, I am pleased to report that acting on recommendations from the Nominating Committee mentioned below and from the Grid Forum Steering Group, the OGF Board of Directors met June 30, 2015 and approved the following three new assignments: * President: Alan Sill, Texas Tech University * Vice President of Standards: Jens Jensen, STFC RAL * Vice President of Community: Wolfgang Ziegler, Fraunhofer SCAI These positions and the roles of the operational leadership for OGF are described in our Operational Leadership<https://www.ogf.org/dokuwiki/doku.php/about/operations> page. Beyond the above appointments, a nominating committee (NomCom) remains in place as commissioned and initiated at the OGF 40 meeting<https://www.ogf.org/dokuwiki/doku.php/events/ogf-40>. It is currently cataloguing open leadership positions, OGF internal structure and needs and will report back to the OGF Board and operational leadership as needed to make recommendations for positions and candidates. A NomCom meeting and Standards Council / Grid Forum Steering Group meeting will be held in addition to the other events at each OGF in-person meeting as needed. As a short-term action, we intend to present to the OGF Board and to the Grid Forum Steering Committee a set of recommendations to simplify, optimize and tune the structure of the organization to reflect our most current areas of productive and future activities. We look forward to serving you further and to the near-term tasks related to optimizing the structure of OGF and tuning it to follow, match and anticipate trends in advanced distributed computing, storage and networking and to using OGF procedures and processes to serve you better in pursuit of your work.
