All OGF documents (including a few that are open for public comment!) may be found here: http://www.ogf.org/gf/docs/ * GFD-I.189 "Relying Party Defined Namespace Constraints Policies in a Policy Bridge PKI Environment." D. Groep, J. Jensen, via CAOPS-WG. Relying Party Defined Namespace Constraints (RPDNC) are limitations on the subject namespace issued by X.509 certification authorities (CAs) that are defined and enforced by the end-point at the relying party side. As grid authentication based on X.509 credentials provides the subject DN as a handle that identifies the authenticated entity, the capability to ensure subject name uniqueness is of critical importance in ensuring overall integrity of the authentication system. This document described the rationale and use cases for relying party defined name space constraints, and lists the set of desired features a policy language expressing such constraints should have. * GFD-R-P.188 "WS-Iterator 1.0." M. Morgan, via OGSA-Naming-WG A number of grid services aggregate data together in lists or maps as part of their inherent function. Consider RNS (the Resource Namespace Specification) which provides the means of mapping human readable names to resource endpoints. Also consider a grid queue or cluster management system that might both group together target or backend BESs (Basic Execution Services) as well as provide mechanisms for querying or manipulating lists of queued jobs. Numerous other examples exist. In both of these cases, it is unreasonable and inefficient to expect communication where the entire content of such a group is transferred in a single SOAP document. At the same time, given the potentially large and diverse spectrum of likely uses for which iteration might be ideal, a generic form of iteration is desirable â one for which iterable content is extensible. A number of iteration service specifications exist already; in particular WS-Enumeration provides similar functionality. Unfortunately, WS-Enumeration is based off of an entirely different model of web service endpoint interaction then that of WSRF. While WSRF has adopted a notion of the âimpliedâ target resource as identified by WS-Addressing information included in the request message's SOAP headers, WS-Enumeration uses a more service oriented, âtoken-in-the-soap-bodyâ protocol. As such, in cases where grid service design is heavily influenced by and modeled after a WSRF pattern, WS-Enumeration is confusing and ungainly. In those cases, WS-Iterator provides the same functionality in a way that is more consistent with intended WSRF practices. For a more detailed description of why the existing WS-Enumeration specification is not suited to this task of WSRF-based iteration, please reference. * GFD-R-P.186 "Data Management API within the GridRPC." Y. Caniou, E. Caron, G. Le Mahec, H. Nakada, via GRIDRPC-WG This document follows the document produced by the GridRPC-WG on GridRPC Model and API for End- User applications. This new document aims to complete the GridRPC API with Data Management mecha- nisms and API. This document is not intended to provide features and capabilities for building data management middle- ware. Its goal is to complete the GridRPC set of functions and definitions to allow users to manipulate their data. The motivation for this document is to provide explicit functions to manipulate the exchange of data between users, components of a GridRPC platform and storage resources since (1) the size of the data used in Grid applications may be large and useless data transfers must be avoided; (2) data are not always stored on the client side but may be made available either on a storage resource or within the GridRPC platform. All functions in the API have been thought to be called by each part in a GridRPC platform (client, agent and server) if needed. * GFD-R-P.185 "Open Cloud Computing Interface - RESTful HTTP Rendering." T. Metsch, A. Edmonds, via OCCI-WG. This document, part of a document series, produced by the OCCI working group within the Open Grid Forum (OGF), provides a high-level definition of a Protocol and API. Dear OGF WG members, Thank you all very much for an excellent set of standards sessions and great productivity in terms of progress and output at OGF 32 in Salt Lake City. Speaking just for the Standards area, I was greatly encouraged by the progress made, and as an organization Open Grid Forum seems well-poised to continue on its long streak of productive output for the community. A copy of the wrap-up talk, missing only a few sessions which we will try to add later, is now posted in the OGF 32 materials at http://www.ogf.org/OGF32/materials/2336/OGF32+Closing+Plenary.pdf We'll update the left-hand sidebar links on the main OGF site to point to this and other related items of interest shortly. Also, the "Workshop on Science Agency Uses of Clouds and Grids" held immediately after OGF 32 finished went very well. We're very pleased to have received a strong response from the community to this workshop in terms of submitted talks, and ended up with a densely packed schedule for the event. Clearly this area is a strong theme for OGF, and future workshops will be planned with a format that will include far more time for general discussion. Dear OGF WG member, The agenda for the 2011 Workshop on Science Agency Uses of Clouds and Grids has now been posted on the conference page, http://www.ogf.org/SAUCG/ along with instructions for remote participation by any of several options. Please feel free to forward this message to other interested parties as appropriate. Remote participation is welcome in this workshop; see below. Please also check these pages at the time of the workshop, as corrections and updates may continue to be made We have an exciting and packed day planned for all day Monday, so please plan to connect for an extended time and to participate as fully as possible in the workshop. We have asked all speakers, even in light of the limited time for each talk, to leave time for questions within their allotted interval. Recall that the purpose of this set or workshops and activities is to give better visibility to a lot of the good work going on in the field, and to provide us with some of the steps needed to document and inventory such work in a more systematic way. For this purpose, it is sufficient to have good information regarding the overall purpose of your project, tool or infrastructure effort and to provide sufficient links to allow viewers and readers of your talk to find out more. Whether participating remotely or in person, the same consideration applies to comments and questions that you might be inclined to ask during the workshop. Please do be prepared to ask questions designed and intended to find out more information about the projects, rather than engage in statements of opinion or polemical arguments. Remote participants are asked to please mute their audio if using a phone or audio/video two-way connection at all times when they are not speaking. That having been said, we do welcome remote participation and a lively, focused discussion on each topic being presented. The overall focus of this workshop will be on using these projects and talks to provide a representative current sampling of the best work and concepts in this field. We hope the above material will be of use to you as we gather information and tackle the challenge of identifying, documenting and supporting information about the best projects and tools together. NIST Cloud Computing Standards Roadmap, First Edition available for download

The first formal output of the NIST Cloud Standards Roadmap group is now available at the link below. Thanks to all from within OGF who helped to offer comments to this working group for this document. Please look this over and make note of any comments that may be gathered for a further future edition. There are other working groups with activities still in progress for the other aspects of the NIST process, and other organizational roadmaps in progress throughout the world. I hope that all OGF working groups will look to match their activities to OGF internal goals and also to map and explain them in the context of such external efforts. We have several such external liaison efforts in progress, coordinated by our VP of Community and the OGF Board, but also rely on OGF members to call worthwhile efforts that can help the OGF mission to our attention. Please feel free to contact any of the above individuals for more information and to pass on worthwhile work of note that is relevant to our community. Internet2 and Open Grid Forum announce Workshop on Science Agency Used of Clouds and Grids

Workshop On Science Agency Uses Of Clouds And Grids Announced Muncie, Indiana; July 1, 2011 - The Open Grid Forum and Internet2 today announced a new workshop titled, "Science Agency Uses of Clouds and Grids" to be held in Salt Lake City, UT on July 18, 2011. The workshop is a follow-on to the previous USDOE-sponsored workshop on High Performance Applications of Cloud and Grid Tools held in April, 2011. This workshop will serve as a venue to develop formal input to several ongoing standards and software roadmapping efforts, including the European SIENA Cloud Standards Roadmap project and the US National Institute of Science and Technology's Cloud Computing Business Use Cases group, as well as to OGF's own standards efforts. International contributions to this workshop are encouraged and will be accepted. Project status updates on cloud and grid framework software efforts and major projects are recruited to be presented at this workshop. The primary goal of this effort will be to produce a process that will effectively inventory and document essentially all large-scale use of cloud and grid infrastructures for projects that support science agency user communities. The schedule will consist of an introduction to the goals of the above roadmapping efforts presented by representatives from these projects and from the workshop sponsors. Materials relating to the inventory aspects of this effort are in preparation and will be distributed before the meeting. Workshop time will be taken in the morning session to present materials gathered to that point and to recruit and gather further information from workshop participants, and to go over the gathered material for completeness. The afternoon session will be devoted to presentations from projects that have not already presented at the previous HPACG workshop. Special presentations from the Open Science Grid on how to create a new Virtual Organization and a preview of the upcoming evolution of the Teragrid project into the eXtreme Digital era by representatives in attendance are anticipated. A special presentation on the Globus Online service and other projects of the Globus group will also be made. Time for other special presentations may also be available; please contact the organizers.
