Workshop on High Performance Applications of Cloud and Grid Tools April 14, 2011 Argonne National Laboratory, Building 240 Conference Center, near Chicago, Illinois, USA http://www.ogf.org/HPACG/ (Immediately following Globus World 2011 April 11-12 and CCA'11 April 13 in the same location) Updated with registration and travel assistance details: see information below. Objective The objective of this workshop is to improve on the state of use of software tools designed for access, administration, job management, input/output standardization, performance optimization of job submission and execution, and other aspects of management of high performance computing resources by multiple users through incorporation of the latest advances in cloud and grid development tools. The workshop will be focused specifically on tools in use or that could be used to produce and maintain production infrastructures for large-scale projects in scientific computing. Goals 1. Gather authors, maintainers, users and interested parties for production cloud and grid infrastructure tools. Survey the existing state of these tools with regard to use and implementation of existing cloud and grid standards. 2. Update participants on current US government and international efforts to promote cloud computing usage and associated efforts on related standards development, promotion and adoption. 3. Focus the talents of the community on options for cloud-to-grid and grid-to-cloud interoperability, high performance applications of existing tools and applicability of OGF and other emerging standards, and gather input from attendees regarding the current state of their projects with respect to these topics. Using the resulting input, explore options for future development that can be achieved on a short-term basis. 4. Serve as a planning forum for a larger-scale workshop and forum aimed at evaluating, encouraging and promoting communication on this topic broadly across US-funded science agency computing projects and among their related international partners. As mentioned at the OGF 31 meeting, we are conducting an OCCI tutorial that is available by video: 1) Connect to the following IP address by H.323: 117.103.105.175 Your H.323 client muct have the capability to enter numbers via a keypad or scroll by arrows in the meetings listed 2) Enter the OCCI meeting by scrolling and entering the OCCI entry, or direct to meeting ID 0122# 3) PIN for the meeting is 0121# I have also bridged this to an EVO meeting for those familiar with this system. E. Urbah, via PGI-WG Abstract: The Production Grid Infrastructure Working Group (PGI-WG) is elaborating documents permitting to improve interoperability of Production Grids. The purpose of this âGlossary of Acronyms and Termsâ is to provide an expansion of acronyms and an unambiguous definition of terms used in the context of a Production Grid. It is based on the âOGSAÂ® Glossary of termsâ GFD.120, the âGLUE Specification v. 2.0â GFD.147 and the PGI âVocabularyâ Wiki page. The root terms are âData processingâ, âAdministrative domainâ, âTrustâ and âFederationâ. It provides a minimum background information about Grids, but does NOT attempt to justify the definitions or the context in which they may be used. The reader is referred to external documents for further explanation where necessary. * GFD.180 "OGF-Production Grid Infrastructure: Use Case Collection, Version 1.0." M. Riedel, J. Watzl, via PGI-WG Abstract: The Production Grid Infrastructure (PGI) working group works on a well-defined set of standard profiles, and additional standard specifications if needed, for job and data management that are aligned with a Grid security and information model that addresses the needs of production Grid infrastructures. These needs have been identified in various international endeavors and are in many cases based on lessons learned obtained from the numerous activities in the Grid Interoperation Now (GIN) community group. Therefore, PGI can be considered as a spin-off activity of the GIN group in order to feed back any experience of using early versions of open standards (e.g. BES, JSDL, SRM, GLUE2, UR, etc.) in Grid production setups to improve the standards wherever possible. This particular document is a survey of common use cases provided by different stakeholders of PGI profiles or standard specifications. Such stakeholders include production Grid and e-science infrastructures as well as technology providers. OGF submission to the Google Summer of Code for 2011

Dear OGF colleagues, OGF is considering a submission to the Google Summer of Code for projects that can engage attention and action from student participants and for which we can provide the required level of commitment from project participants as mentors. An OGF project page has been set up at the following link to collect details. We would like to high-quality project ideas for which we can identify specific mentors who are willing to take on this role at a level that would be commensurate with the goals of the program and the community practices of OGF as an organization. Peter Tröger, Andre Merzky, Shantenu Jha and Thijs Metsch have done the majority of work in getting the GSoC application organized and the OGF project pages to this point. Joel Replogle will submit it on behalf of OGF, if the Board approves in its upcoming meeting later this week.
