Shoshani Abstract: Storage management is one of the most important enabling technologies for large-scale scientific investigations. Having to deal with multiple heterogeneous storage and file systems is one of the major bottlenecks in managing, replicating, and accessing files in distributed environments. Storage Resource Managers (SRMs), named after their web services protocol, provide the technology needed to manage the rapidly growing distributed data volumes, as a result of faster and larger computational facilities. SRMs are Grid storage services providing interfaces to storage resources, as well as advanced functionality such as dynamic space allocation and file management on shared storage systems. They call on transport services to bring files into their space transparently and provide effective sharing of files. SRMs are based on a common specification that emerged over time and evolved into an international collaboration. This approach of an open specification that can be used by various institutions to adapt to their own storage systems has proven to be a remarkable success -- the challenge has been to provide a consistent homogeneous interface to the Grid, while allowing sites to have diverse infrastructures. In particular, one of the main goals to the SRM web service is to support optional features while preserving interoperability. Examples of such applications may be high resolution home video editing, real-time rendering, high-definition interactive TV, e-health and immersive interactive learning environments. These applications need infrastructures that makes vast amount of storage and computation resources potentially available to a large number of users. Key for the future evolution of such networks is to determine early on the technologies, protocols, and network architecture that would enable solutions to these requirements. Abstract: This document provides guidance for the use of directory names, attributes, and extensions in X.509 certificates, such that they are usable by the majority of the grid infrastructures today. The intended audience for this document includes issuers of X.509 certificates for use in grid infrastructures, and implementers of X.509 validation software for grid purposes. Interoperability for X.509 identity certificates between the issuers of certificates and the software that interprets them is increasingly more important as the number of participants in grids that rely on a X.509 certificates grows. It is difficult to predict which particular software will be used by the parties relying on the certificate, and how this software interprets specific name forms, attributes, and extensions. This document gives guidance and defines explicit restrictions on the certificate profile to ensure the certificate is interpreted by the relying party in the way the issuer intended. It specifies and further restricts the certificate format as defined in RFC3280 and the X.509 standard. Kishimoto Abstract: The Open Grid Forum (OGF) has embraced the Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) as the blueprint for standards-based grid computing. "Open" refers to the process used to develop standards that achieve interoperability. "Grid" is concerned with the integration, virtualization, and management of services and resources in a distributed, heterogeneous environment. It is "service-oriented" because it delivers functionality as loosely coupled, interacting services aligned with industry-accepted Web service standards. The "architecture" defines the components, their organizations and interactions, and the design philosophy used. The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of the many interrelated recommendations and informational documents being produced by the OGSA and related working groups. Although, some documents are not OGSA specific, for example the "reference model," they have an important role within the OGSA concept and hence are explained in this document. This document also provides information regarding the intended completion dates of the documents in question, along with their dependencies on other OGSA and non-OGSA documents.
