The Technical Strategy and Roadmap (TS&R) document is now available for public comment <http://www.ogf.org/gf/docs/?public_comment> http://www.ogf.org/gf/docs/?public_comment. Please review this important document as soon as possible. It describes the long term OGF technical strategy and output plan, specific short-term milestones and target deliverables of the OGF standards working groups and the requirements that serve as the inputs to standards working groups. The TS&R will also be used to align OGF Standards, eScience and Enterprise functions and be the basis for communicating OGF's technical direction to the greater grid and distributed computing community. Some of you may have seen an email regarding GGF14. Please disregard this email. This message did not originate from an OGF mail server and we believe it was an isolated problem and will not be repeated. In any case, we do have an event fast approaching - OGF19 in Chapel Hill, January 29 to February 2. There is still time to register and participate. Along with group sessions, attendees will have access to an extensive schedule of eScience workshops and Enterprise outreach activities. Our program includes a new Grid Software Providers track to enable our community to interact more regularly and substantially with the key grid software providers. We are also continuing the "requirement summits" that we began during GGF18. These summits provide opportunities for members of our community to communicate requirements, shape priorities, and engage in our technical strategy and roadmap process. The purpose of these port types is to provide the means for treating such data resources as POSIX-like files. At the same time, clients will be able to leverage these port types to provide users with a convenient way of interacting with these grid resources. The purpose of this specification is to address a common case and common requirement in the grid community. Other applications may choose to provide more application specific interfaces for accessing and modifying bulk data in their own resource endpoints, however it is hoped that they will choose to additionally support ByteIO as a means of providing a common interface to which arbitrary clients can speak. ByteIO is divided into two port types and each addresses a unique set of use cases. The first of these port types supports the notion that a data resource is directly accessible and that clients can handle the maintenance of any session state (such as file pointer, buffering, caching, etc.). The other port type presents a more stream-like interface to clients and as such contains implicit session state. In this latter case data resources with this port type donât represent that bulk data source/sink directly but rather represent the resource of the open stream between the client and the data source/sink. In the wider technical domain of distributed system management and grid computing, the OGSA WSRF Basic Profile 1.0 [OGSA WSRF Basic Profile] provides the first normative profile, addressing issues regarding the addressing, modeling and management of WS-Resources, but it does not address the details of the security aspects of interoperability issues. Therefore, in order to ensure the secure and interoperable interaction of Web services in the context of distributed resource management and grid computing, we define here the OGSA Basic Security Profile 1.0 â Core, a profile which is intended to be used along with one of the OGSA Basic Profiles, such as the OGSA WSRF Basic Profile 1.0 [OGSA WSRF Basic Profile]. The OGSA Basic Security Profile 1.0 -- Core described in this document is an OGSA Recommended Profile as Proposed Recommendation, as defined in the OGSA Profile Definition [OGSA Profile Definition]. The OGSA Basic Security Profile 1.0 â Core describes uses of widely accepted specifications that have been found to enable interoperability. The specification considered in this profile is the basic Web services specification which is used to enable addressing of resources: WS-Addressing 1.0 [WS-Addressing]. The requirements stated in the profile are concerned with binding of key information to an endpoint reference; the profile defines a core security profile which is considered to be common to all OGSA services to ensure security in an inherently unsafe environment such as the Internet.
