1. The GFSG has approved the Production Grid Services Research Group
(PGS-RG). This group will combine and extend the work of the Production
Grid Management (PGM-RG) and the Grid User Services (GUS-RG) Research
Groups. The email list is pgs-rg(a)ggf.org and the GridForge project is:

2. The GGF Editor and GFSG have approved the following documents for
publication in the GGF Document Series. These documents may be accessed

3. Advance registration rates will expire next week for GGF14 (27-30 June,

Global Grid Forum's next event, GGF14, will be held at the Westin Michigan
Avenue hotel in downtown Chicago from 27-30 June, 2005. Please note the
Monday (27 June) start. Registration (open now) and housing details can
be accessed via http://www.ggf.org/ggf_events_next.htm.
In addition to Working Group, Research Group and Birds of a Feather
sessions to be held from Tuesday through Thursday afternoon, the GGF14
schedule will contain a diverse set of workshops, presentations and panels
on the Community Program Track from Monday to Wednesday. The goal of this
community track is to build new and strengthen existing communities of
interest in GGF.

1. New Groups Approved
Two new groups have been approved by the Grid Forum Steering Group (GFSG).
First, the OGSA-D-WG was formed to develop the data architecture associated
with OGSA. Spawned from the OGSA-WG Data design team, Dave Berry (National
eScience Center, UK) and Allen Luniewski (IBM) will co-chair this new
working group. The email list is ogsa-d-wg(a)ggf.org and the GridForge
project will be available soon: http://forge.ggf.org/projects/ogsa-d-wg.
Second, the ByteIO-WG was formed to define a Web Service interface for
reading and writing sequences of bytes into various sources and
destinations. Also spawned from the OGSA-WG Data design team, Mark Morgan
(University of Virginia) and Neil Chue Hong (EPCC, University of Edinburgh)
will co-chair this new working group. The email list is byteio-wg(a)ggf.org
and the GridForge project will be available soon:

2. GGF14
June 26-29, 2005 are the dates for GGF14 in Chicago, IL, USA. Registration
will open on May 3 for this standards and community oriented event. The
call for participation for workshops is open until May 6 and for
community-oriented talks, May 11 (see
http://www.ggf.org/Meetings/GGF14/GGF14.htm) Plan now to attend.
3. Telco Focus at Supercomm 2005
GGF will continue its focus on grid technologies and their impact on the
Telecommunication industry with a focus session during the upcoming
Supercomm 2005 (Chicago, June 6-9). The Monday, June 6, session will
feature representatives from numerous regional and national telco operators
and vendors. Details of the meeting and the agenda will be made available

4. GGF Operating Model Enhancements
Introduced by Mark Linesch at GGF13 in Seoul, the GFSG has recommended a
set of enhancements to the current GGF operating model. A document
describing these recommendations is available for download at:

5. Spring Grid Connections
In the Spring edition of the Grid Connections newsletter (attached), Mark
Linesch, David Snelling, and Geoffrey Fox discuss the Standards and
Community aspects of the GGF mission.
6. NOMCOM Update
The Global Grid Forum (GGF) Nominations Committee is soliciting nominations
for the open positions on the Grid Forum Steering Group
(GFSG). You can read the details at http://www.gridforum.org/nomcom. A
unique opportunity exists now to become part of the new leadership team of
GGF during 2005. In addition to continuing our important standards efforts,
we are working to strengthen and expand communities of interest in
GGF. Also, we are introducing new opportunities for leadership in the GGF
operations. Please consider who you would like to see in the GGF
leadership and send nominations to nomcom(a)ggf.org. Self nominations are
also encouraged. The deadline is Friday, May 20, 2005.
