Sorry for duplicates ------------------------------------------------------------ As of yesterday, all GGF/OGF mailing lists are migrated to the ogf domain. They are now managed by mailman, the web interface is available at http://www.ogf.org/mailman/listinfo With that migration, all list can be now reached via <list>@ogf.org The old @ggf.org addresses will be available for some time, but are bound to disappear eventually - please start using the ogf addresses! A number of lists have changed their names: ggf-it --> ogf-it ggf-office --> ogf-office ggf-proc-wg --> ogf-proc-wg ggf-sponsors --> ogf-sponsors ggf-tutorials --> ogf-tutorials ggf-compute --> ogf-compute ggflistowners --> ogflistowners ggfstudentmembers --> ogfstudentmembers Postings to the old list names get forwarded to the new ones. With the migration we have also been able to fix the archives - you may have noticed that list archiving stopped sometime in mid June. Well, now its working again, and all mails from June to now have been added to the archive. The list archives can be found at: http://www.ogf.org/archives/<list> If you are an list administrator, and would like to receive the list admin password, please contact postmaster(a)ogf.org. In general, however, we tried to map the old majordomo settings to the mailman settings, in terms of privacy etc, so no or little changes should be required from your side. The spam avoidance policy has been changed to some extent, and is somewhat stricter than before. Please let us know if you experience any trouble with that. Closing UPDT-RG

The User Program Development Tools (UPDT) Research Group has completed its current charter. The User Survey is available as GGF Informational document GFD.33. The "Known Problems Survey" was abandoned due to lack of respondents. The UPDT-RG co-arranged a workshop with the APPS-RG which was well attended and with high quality presentations. The papers from the workshop resulted in GGF document GFD.39. All in all, this was a successful research group which allowed the user tool community to get together and share experiences. At this point the chairs have decided to close the UPDT-RG. The topic of user tools for the Grid will be continued in the APPS-RG which recharted last year with new goals including Grid tools. Hello all, The GGF UPDT research group needs new chairs and a new secretary. My charter at HP has changed and I am no longer working on user development tools. I want to pass on the leadership of the group to somebody who is interested in contributing actively to the group. During the last year not much has happened in this group. I apologize for that. I will still attend the UPDT RG meeting at the upcoming GGF meetings but cannot lead the group's effort. We are seeking contributions on the following topics: - user experience with early-adoptor and/or mainstream grid applications - management approaches for production-quality grid environments - techniques for robust (fault tolerant) grid applications and middleware - software tools for automatic testing and signaling of error conditions Our focus is on hands-on experience with existing grid environments, focusing on bridging the gap between early adoption and production use. Hi all, I will not be able to participate in GGF14 (my due date is June 29) but could help review and help prepare a workshop for this GGF. I just don't want to be in charge since I don't have the time to do an adequate job. Do we want to do anything at GGF14? Groups will focus on the continued development of shared approaches, grid specifications and best practices for grids. Several critical drafts will be discussed and advanced toward publication during this event. In addition to these group sessions, GGF will offer a series of 30-60 minute invited talks and panels on the current and future status of Grids in different communities such as sectors of research (e.g., Astronomy) and industry (e.g, Telecommunications). New areas such as education are also solicited. This "community track" seeks to build new and strengthen existing communities of interest in GGF. Both new and existing communities are encouraged to submit a brief abstract for presentation in this community track. GGF14 attendees will gain unique insights from applications and technology experts discussing innovative approaches to deploying and using grids. A community track overview document and slides will be posted on the GGF14 website. GGF also welcomes proposals for traditional workshops to be held at GGF14. Proposals will be evaluated by essentially the same process (GROC) as in previous GGF meetings. Known Problems in Tools for Grid Programming GGF UPDT survey

The User Program Development Tools research group of GGF is conducting a survey to help the group focus its efforts in standards for grid-enabled programming tools. The goal of the survey is to compile a list of implementation issues that may be encountered by (1) grid programming tool/framework developers and (2) grid application developers. Where standardization can help solve such a problem, the User Program Development Tools research group or its successors will try to orchestrate a community-based solution.
