Re: [sem-grd] Attendance at GGF15 and Possible Informal Meeting

This is the exactly the right way to go - i.e. use this meeting and the list to get a draft charter (and chairs etc) together and then hold a BoF next time as the next formal step towards creating the activity. Yes, there's Grid Forge for shared document space. Good to use this community group list to bootstrap this, then with a standards activity in place you will have a specific GGF list for the business of that group. -- Dave -----Original Message----- From: Jonathan Dale [mailto:jonathan.dale@us.fujitsu.com] Sent: Fri Sep 30 05:41:03 2005 To: Dr. K.M. Principally, we can use this mailing list to exchange ideas, I think. I was hoping that if we become a working group (or whatever the appropriate terminology is in GGF), then there would be other mechanisms in place that we could use (perhaps a web site and shared file space). I will see what I can find out next week. The most important thing that we need to do next week is work on a charter to define the remit of the work that we want to address; people who cannot attend the meeting should send suggestions to this mailing list and we will try to incorporate them as we can. After next week, I will distribute a draft charter for everyone to review. Thanks, Jonathan ????? ??? --- On Sep 29, 2005, at 6:50 pm, Dr. K.M. Ku wrote:

Is there any active forum on web so that we can share our ideas?

Hi Jonathan,
I will attend the meeting. As I proposed in previous mail http://www-unix.gridforum.org/mail_archive/sem-grd/2005/09/ msg00000.html I wanted to present new FIPA activities. But we do not have a slot allocated for semantic grid session?
I will also be available from Monday through Thursday.

This is just a quick poll to see who will be at GGF15 and whether people are interested in getting together at some point during the week to talk about Semantic GRID ideas and how we can push it forward within the GGF. I am anxious to take all of the good stuff in terms of activity and presentations that we have had in the past and turn it into some kind of standardisation activity.
I will be around from Monday until Thursday (I have a 3:30pm flight), so let me know if you will be there and suitable times to meet.

We also need to move to a less meeting focussed orientation. To make this successful, we will need technology and domain experts who probably cannot make it to the meetings every time. If a WG can be established, then regular teleconference would be they way to go. Initially, I imagine that there will be an intense phase of gathering the state of the art to see what can (and should) be standardised upon, followed by a period of analysis and synthesis before drafting something. I remember that some people tried to draft a charter previously... Can someone post the latest version? Thanks, Jonathan ジョナサン デイル --- On Sep 29, 2005, at 9:57 pm, David De Roure wrote:

Indeed - it's definitely the case that many of the more productive working groups follow this model! -- Dave On Fri, 30 Sep 2005, Jonathan Dale wrote:
