Introduction ------------- Knowledge Discovery has been widely accepted as a key technology for enterprises and organizations to improve their abilities in data analysis, decision support, and the automatic extraction of knowledge from data. With the exponential growing amount of information to be included in the decision making process, the data to be considered becomes more and more complex in both structure and semantics, located in heterogeneous and distributed systems. Furthermore, the explosive growth and popularity of the world-wide web has resulted in a huge number of information sources on the Internet. Consequently, the process of retrieval and knowledge discovery from this huge amount of heterogeneous complex data builds the litmus-test for the research in the area. Information Integration subsumes all technologies needed to provide form manipulation of information scattered over many information systems while supporting a single system image. Information integration has been a long standing challenge for the database community in the last decades. Although there are several distinct research and development areas explicitly or implicitly addressing data integration, the schematic and semantic heterogeneity is still one of the most difficulties in the integration of heterogeneous knowledge and information systems - one of the perquisite steps of knowledge discovery process. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers, developers, and practitioners to present their recent work, discuss and identify problems, synergize different views of techniques and policies, and brainstorm future research/development directions on semantic information integration used in knowledge discovery. The research on progress, draft idea, architecture submissions are also welcome. Papers must be formatted according to the guidelines of the Austrian Computer Society (OCG). (to be found at http://www.ocg.at/activities/books/Richtlinien.pdf) Submitted papers will be blind reviewed and carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of exposition. Duplicate submissions are not allowed. A submission is considered to be a duplicate submission if it is submitted to other conferences/workshops/journals or it has been already accepted to be published in other conferences/workshops/journals. Duplicate submissions thus will be automatically rejected without reviews. The submission implies that at least one author must register at the iiWAS conference and present the paper. OGSA-DAI RDF Activities Preliminary Release.

Dear We are developing OGSA-DAI RDF handling activities and we want some users who can use or evaluate our software. Our RDF handling activities supports SPARQL query language and basic ontology APIs. Supported platform is Jena and Sesame. 1) For those who just want to use the software, we set up the demo server environment(OGSA-DAI 2.1) also with some example perform documents. If you already have OGSA-DAI, you can use our server with these perform documents. For mover details, please visit http://www.dbgrid.org/ -> OGSA-DAI-RDF 2) Our software, V0.2 is also available, however, this software is premature version and we are now completely re-designing to synchronize with the coming discussion of GGF WS-DAI for RDF(S) specification. If you can evaluate our alpha software, please download the package and give us some feedback to enhance the next version of the software and the coming specification of WS-DAI for RDF(S) query interface. For DAIS for RDF activities, we will soon make an announce to invite to join this activity. Also, we have upgraded our OGSA-WebDB software which will be announced later. Postdoctoral Research Fellow Computing Science University of Aberdeen Salary range: £26,915 - £30,293 per annum PolicyGrid (http://www.policygrid.org) is one of the ESRC National Centre for eSocial Science (NCeSS) research nodes. The Node’s research agenda is focused on assisting the social science community to exploit the full potential of emerging Semantic Web technologies and standards in the Grid context. The Node brings computer scientists and social scientists together to focus on the challenges of using Semantic Grid technologies to enable more powerful analysis of mixed-method data (e.g. surveys and interviews, case studies, simulations) thus adding significant value to the work of social scientists engaged in the creation and analysis of evidence bases for policy development and evaluation. The post holder will be part of a larger team and will focus on the development of semantic grid infrastructure and lightweight metadata (ontology + folksonomy) support for a range of activities including social simulation models, and support for policy argumentation. You will also be expected to contribute to the research agenda for the Node, and your role will involve liaison with the National Centre for eSocial Science (NCeSS) located at the University of Manchester. You should have a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline. You are expected to be a highly competent programmer in Java, and have experience of Semantic Web technologies (including OWL and RDF). Knowledge of e-science and Web/Grid service technologies would be desirable. The work will involve conceptual/theoretical work, and also implementation of demonstrable system software. The post is being offered for 30 months on a full time basis and is tenable from 1 September 2006.
