Second Call for Papers Deadline: May 1, 2006 AAAI Fall Symposium Semantic Web for Collaborative Knowledge Acquisition (SWeCKa 2006) October 12-15, 2006 Arlington, VA Recent advances in computing, communications together with the rapid proliferation of information sources and services present unprecedented opportunities in integrative and collaborative analysis and interpretation of distributed, autonomous (and hence, inevitably semantically heterogeneous) data and knowledge sources and services in virtually every area of human activity. The symposium aims to bring together researchers in relevant areas of artificial intelligence, databases, knowledge bases, machine learning, information integration, ontologies, semantic web, web services, and relevant application areas (e.g., bioinformatics, environmental informatics, enterprise informatics e-science, e-government, medical informatics, security informatics, social informatics, among others.) to share recent advances in the state of the art in semantic web technologies for such applications. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Cyber-infrastructure and semantic web technologies for collaborative knowledge acquisition * Modeling semantically heterogeneous data sources and services * Collaboratively developing and sharing of ontologies and inter-ontology mappings * Discovering and resolving inconsistencies within and among ontologies * Representing and reasoning with ontologies and mappings between ontologies * Discovering mappings between data source schemas and between ontologies * Querying distributed, semantically heterogeneous information sources * Acquiring knowledge from distributed, autonomous, semantically heterogeneous information sources * Acquiring knowledge from partially specified data * Exploiting distributed knowledge and data in dynamic data-driven applications * Discovering and composing semantically heterogeneous services * Modeling, tracking and using information provenance * Modeling and reasoning about trust of information sources and services * Extracting knowledge and facts from distributed text and multimedia data * Preserving privacy, selective information and knowledge sharing * Case studies, Software Tools, and Prototypes The symposium will include a series of half-day sessions, each addressing a challenge area. Sessions will include invited talks providing overviews of key topics, short presentations based on contributed papers, a poster session for work in progress, breakout sessions focusing on specific research challenges and emerging research directions, a panel discussion and a wrap-up session. Submissions Potential participants are invited to submit full papers (up to 8 pages in length), poster summaries or extended abstracts (1-2 pages in length) by May 1, 2006. Submissions should be in the AAAI camera-ready format (postcript or pdf files) and should be sent electronically to aaai06-SWeCKa(a)cs.iastate.edu. Each submission will be reviewed by at least two program committee members. Authors of accepted papers and abstracts will be notified by May 22, 2006. Extended versions of selected papers may be published in a special issue of a journal or an edited book. Partial travel support for graduate and postdoctoral students may be available. CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS Fifth International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC 2006) November 5 - 9, 2006 Athens, Georgia, USA http://iswc2006.semanticweb.org The dream of the Web was to create a human communication and collaboration platform for sharing knowledge and enabling a universal space for information and services. We all are now much more connected, and in turn face new resulting problems: service and information overload caused by insufficient support for information selection, organization and collaboration. The Semantic Web, by providing standards for formulating and distributing metadata and ontologies, enables means for information organization and selective access. However, the Semantic Web requires new infrastructure on all levels - e.g., human-computer interaction, expressive representation and query languages, reasoning engines, data representation and integration, interoperability middleware, and distributed computing. To foster the exchange of ideas and collaboration, the International Semantic Web Conference brings together researchers in relevant disciplines such as artificial intelligence, databases, distributed computing, web engineering, information systems, and human-computer interaction. The Fifth International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC2006) follows on the success of previous conferences and workshops in Galway, Ireland (2005), Hiroshima, Japan (2004), Sanibel Island, USA (2003), Sardinia, Italy (2002), and Stanford, USA (2001). The central concept is to empower users through a digital environment that is aware of their presence and context, able to provide personalized services to their requirements, capable of anticipating their behaviour and responding to their presence. An essential aspect for the ubiquitous vision to become true is therefore the provisioning of small, handheld, wireless computing devices that enable interaction between users and environments (e.g., sensors, actuators, interactive screens, displays, etc.), and computing elements (usually hardwired) that carry out specific networking functions such as data processing, storage and routing. These devices offer functionalities that can be described, advertised and discovered by others and they are eventually able to interoperate even though they have not been designed to work together. This type of interoperability is based on the ability to understand other devices and reason about their functionalities when necessary. Knowledge deployed in mobile and ubiquitous applications is therefore pervasive, distributed, heterogeneous, and dynamic by nature. In this respect, mobile and ubiquitous applications can benefit from marrying the Semantic Web, which provides the infrastructure for the extensive usage of distributed knowledge, to be deployed for modelling devices functionalities and add meaning (through ontologies), enabling lightweight discovery and composition of device functionalities (using annotations and reasoning for service matchmaking), and coordination of processes (using negotiation strategies). The ability to appropriately combine ubiquity and semantic grounded data sharing has generated and is continuously triggering challenging questions in several areas of computer science, engineering and networking. The workshop on Semantic Web technology for mobile and ubiquitous applications aims to gather input covering the above mentioned challenges, and it is intended as a lively forum of discussion for bringing together and fostering the interaction of practitioners and researchers coming from the many disciplines contributing to the design and deployment of mobile and ubiquitous applications in a semantic-grounded perspective. TOPICS OF INTEREST The main topics of interest include but are not restricted to: • Lightweight semantic negotiation for mobile and ubiquitous applications; • Semantic Web and p2p; • Ontologies for mobile and ubiquitous systems; • Semantic Web Technology for Context aware applications; • Personalisation; • Knowledge representation, discovery and management in mobile and ubiquitous applications; • Knowledge representation, discovery and management for semantic web services in mobile and ubiquitous environments; • Semantic web services; • Dynamic composition of semantic web services; • Agent technologies for mobile and ubiquitous systems; • Integration of agent-based services and web services; • Mobile and ubiquitous databases and information retrieval. SUBMISSION Papers are solicited for any of the topics of interest listed above. We invite contributions of different kinds. We solicit regular research papers which may report on: • completed work; • description of current, but mature, work in progress; • discussion papers comparing different approaches, or account of practical experiences of using SW technology in mobile and ubiquitous applications.. In addition, we invite people wishing to participate in the workshop to submit a short position paper concerning statements of interest, or technical or policy issues. Spaces will be limited and those who have submitted a paper will be given priority for registration. Both type of papers will provide the framework for the discussions during the workshop. Papers must be written in English. Submitted papers will be reviewed by at least three members of the programme committee, and selected on the basis of their relevance and originality. Both research and position papers should be formatted according to the official formatting guidelines of the ECAI main conference. Research papers should not exceed twelve pages, while position statements should not exceed five pages.
