In these next documents we want to address the following topics: - Requirements Analyses - In our first documents we pointed out several use cases which showed that firewalls are a problem in Grids. The next step is to put down the requirements mankind has when using Grids in firewalled environments. - Existing solutions - We would like to summarize existing solutions to solve firewall issue. This includes the analyses of the solutions and the possible porting issue when using them in Grids. - New Solutions - As a second topic we want to talk about new upcoming solutions like Protocols, Proxies or similar. Afterwards we'll have a look if they meet the requirements stated above. For all those points stated above we would like to invite you to post your ideas to our wiki. Meeting materials from GGF18 + document in public comment

Dear All, We had a very engaging session on Firewalls in GGF 18 with our first document in public comment, MIDCOM chair presenting from IETF, kick-starting the work on the solutions document and research presentations on new proposed solutions. Thanks Ralph, Melinda, Thijs and Jeff. We had some good discussion on Virtualizing the Firewall and making it a Grid-managed resource. There is still active discussion that needs to happen on what that entails -- we are soliciting presentations on that topic for the next GGF. The presentations from the meeting is uploaded to the FI-RG gridforge site under Meeting materials. First release of the Daonity system

The Daonity team of Trusted Computing Research Group (TC-RG) has completed the first release of the Daonity system. We wish that the home location for downloading the open source package be under the TC-RG home with OGF, eg, http://forge.gridforum.org/sf/projects/tc-rg/daonity/ So far it has a small problem to do so. I am working with the OGF officials to sort it out. If we cannot sort the problem out in a couple of days, I shall release it under my personal home page as a temporary location. The attached short paper (to appear in 1st ACM Workshop for Scalable Trusted Computing) manifests a Daibuty usecase scenario. It is a dynamic VO, with a "distributed firewall": no VO member is allowed to disseminate the VO discussions to a non-member, and when a VO member is removed from the VO, it cannot take away the VO data with it. In Washington DC (Wed, 18:30-20:00, Location 155), I will do a demo show the system in the above usecase scenario. Best regards, Wenbo

They are now managed by mailman, the web interface is available at http://www.ogf.org/mailman/listinfo With that migration, all list can be now reached via <list>@ogf.org The old @ggf.org addresses will be available for some time, but are bound to disappear eventually - please start using the ogf addresses! A number of lists have changed their names: ggf-it --> ogf-it ggf-office --> ogf-office ggf-proc-wg --> ogf-proc-wg ggf-sponsors --> ogf-sponsors ggf-tutorials --> ogf-tutorials ggf-compute --> ogf-compute ggflistowners --> ogflistowners ggfstudentmembers --> ogfstudentmembers Postings to the old list names get forwarded to the new ones. With the migration we have also been able to fix the archives - you may have noticed that list archiving stopped sometime in mid June. Well, now its working again, and all mails from June to now have been added to the archive. In general, however, we tried to map the old majordomo settings to the mailman settings, in terms of privacy etc, so no or little changes should be required from your side. The VTDC workshop is intended to be a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences on the use of virtualization technologies in distributed computing, the challenges and opportunities offered by the development of virtual systems themselves, as well as case studies of application of virtualization. GGF17 in Tokyo is getting closer!

Dear all, The next GGF is only a week away, as usual with plenty of interesting sessions to attend. On top of that, there's the GridWorld Japan expo that may attract some of you as well. I would like to make some advertising for the security area session on Thursday morning (9am). Besides the usual formalia, we will get some thought-provoking ideas on the use of Identity-Based Cryptography in Grid Security, presented by Hoon Wei Lim. Abstract as follows: The majority of current security architectures for grid systems use public key infrastructure (PKI) to authenticate identities of grid members and to secure resource allocation to these members. Identity-based cryptography (IBC) has some attractive properties which seem to align well with the demands of grid computing, for example, it is certificate-free and uses small key sizes. More importantly, an entity's public key can be computed on-the-fly based on their identity. In this talk, we present the use of identity-based techniques to provide an alternative grid security architecture. Our proposal exploits some interesting properties of hierarchical identity-based cryptography (HIBC) to replicate security services provided by the grid security infrastructure (GSI) of the Globus Toolkit.
