GGF-14 is approaching fast. It took us some time and further discussions to get the charter approved by the GFSG however everything is now arranged. The mailing list and gridforge (https://forge.gridforum.org/projects/fi-rg) has now been setup for the group. We still need to be listed on the index pages on the GGF web, however this is being looked at. If you like to contribute to our group, please send Inder Monga (imonga(a)nortel.com) a memo so he can add you to our project. Before GGF-14 I like to have some structure on the first chartered document. This document should address the type of issues the grid experiences with several types of firewall-style devices. A possible structure of the document could be: Name: Firewall Issues list and classification. 1. Introduction. 2. Definitions. Definition of terms used in the document. 3. Devices. Listing and describing the functionalities of various firewall-style devices to be considered. 4. Issues. Listing and describing the types of issues with examples grid applications see with using devices listed in chapter 3. This chapter may do this arranged by example. Firewall Issues Research Group has been approved

Andrew Martin discovered why my original message below kept bouncing. Thanks Andrew for sharing this info. I am pleased to announce that the Grid Forum Steering Group has approved the charter of the Firewall Issues Research Group. The group now has its own mailing list called fi-rg(a)ggf.org You are invited to join to this list by sending a message to majordomo(a)ggf.org with the following line in the TEXT of the message: s*bscribe fi-rg (replace * by u - this was the reason why the message originally kept bouncing) the subject of the email is ignored. As the next GGF is approaching fast, I would like to invite everybody, including the people who agreed to contribute at GGF13, to create a few paragraphs of text, outlining the subjects you think are important to be researched within this group. Please send your input to the fi-rg list and Inder and I will merge this into a draft document. This document can act as a basis for our discussions. We will then announce a telecon in which we can discuss the input received. We are currently setting up gridforge for the fi-rg which will soon contain the charter and minutes and presentations of the GGF13 BOF. Kind regards .. Leon Gommans.

TC-RG set up

Dear all, The TC-RG (Trusted Computing Research Group) is now up and running; welcome to those who have signed up to the list. Others are welcome to join (by sending a message to majordomo(a)ggf.org, saying `s*bscribe tc-rg' ---replace the * with a u. Majordomo bounces this message when I spell it out in full). We are planning two meetings at GGF14: Wenbo is arranging a seminar in the community track programme, with several speakers talking about experiences so far with TC. We will also have a TC-RG research group session, with an opportunity to discuss those topics, and hear about progress towards our goals. One of those goals is a use case document. I'd be pleased to hear from anyone who wants to contribute a (possible, potential, actual, etc.) use case for trusted computing in Grid middleware or applications. I'll begin to collate these with the ideas presented at the BOF. Please send your ideas to the TC-RG list. Best regards Andrew Martin and Wenbo Mao.
