GGF16 Campus Grids BOF - Call for Speakers

Campus Grids BOF Sponsored by the Production Grid Services Research Group GGF-16 Athens, Greece February 14th, 2006 Grids on academic campuses are becoming more and more prevalent. This BOF is to help determine whether a new Research Group in GGF should be created to address issues related to deploying grid technology for academic and research activities. You should join us for this Campus Grid BOF discussion if: - You have a campus grid in your organization - You are interested in implementing a campus grid - You are struggling with getting your grid deployed - You think a campus grid would be good for your organization but don't know how to 'sell' the idea - You are a researcher and would like to learn what a grid would 'buy' you - You want to build a network of others who share your concerns To seed the BOF discussion, PGS-RG is interested in hearing from those who would like to give a short presentation about their campus grids. Due to the time constraints talks need to be significantly shorter than a workshop presentation. Recommended topics include: - Issues within your setup that are of particular interest o 'Gotchas' that others need to be aware o Your training for new grid researchers o Support options that work well for your campus grid - Interoperability o Sociological as well as technical issues that allow your grid to work within your campus or grids outside your campus o Meeting the needs for specific focused researchers - Your business case o Economic advantages of using desktop resources over night o Economic advantage of share resources using grid technology rather than buying large clusters - Your team o How many to implement and support o Local development or borrow from others o All Open Source, a mix or all commercial o Partnership between universities and companies If interested in sharing your grid campus grid experiences, please send email noting the specific topic you want to highlight to: Dr. David Wallom, Campus Grid Manager, University of Oxford, david.wallom@ierc.ox.ac.uk ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Laura F.
