Session Scheduling for GGF17 (Tokyo)

Session scheduling for GGF17 in Tokyo is now open. PGS-RG will be doing document reviews for the four documents that we currently have In Progress. The goal will be to complete these documents and get them submitted to the GGF document process. The documents are all available on the PGS-RG website, at http://www.psc.edu/~lfm/PSC/Grid/PGS-RG/. The specific documents are: GGF15: Grids on Campus Workshop Report Grid Constitution Tools Requirements Support Requirements Our question to the group is: should we request one 90-minute session to discuss these 4 documents or two sessions? It is our hope that the face-to-face discussions in Tokyo will be a follow-on to discussions that we will be initiated on the mailing list, but we understand that more time might be required face-to-face to effectively resolve the remaining issues with these documents. As chairs of the Production Grid Services RG, we would like to discuss with your group possible overlap in our areas. We are currently completing a document (left over from before Grid User Services and Produciton Grid Management merged) that discusses Tools Requirements. While some of the tools are for grid management, there is a lot of overlap with the work you're doing on user tools. Campus Grids BOF Sponsored by the Production Grid Services Research Group GGF-16 Athens, Greece February 14th, 2006 Grids on academic campuses are becoming more and more prevalent. This BOF is to help determine whether a new Research Group in GGF should be created to address issues related to deploying grid technology for academic and research activities. You should join us for this Campus Grid BOF discussion if: - You have a campus grid in your organization - You are interested in implementing a campus grid - You are struggling with getting your grid deployed - You think a campus grid would be good for your organization but don't know how to 'sell' the idea - You are a researcher and would like to learn what a grid would 'buy' you - You want to build a network of others who share your concerns To seed the BOF discussion, PGS-RG is interested in hearing from those who would like to give a short presentation about their campus grids. Due to the time constraints talks need to be significantly shorter than a workshop presentation. campus grids BOS suggestion

I am withdrawing my suggestion of a campus grid group broken up into 3 regions. My thoughts were that this would allow those with limited travel options more opportunities by joining PGS when GGF met in their part of the globe, collaborating with international campus grids via email, presentations posted on PGS, etc. and meeting one or two additional times in their 'region' at sites hosted by a university or around another well-attended conference with a focus on campus grids. I saw this as a way to include more institutions, enhance PGS, yet focus on issues of each regions. Having been associated with GGF since if was just GF since 6/1999), I have seen many commonalities among grids, but differences also. I don't know at this point if GGF would approve of this format. GGF16 (Athens) Activities?

Real life is interfering with extracurriculars for me right now, so I apologize for not getting GGF15 materials poster in a more timely manner. But...GGF16 planning is already starting, so we need to talk about what we want to do in Athens. At the business meeting at GGF15, we discussed the possibility of having a Grid Accounting/Usage Tracking workshop for the Community program. Time constraints have not been supportive of preparing this, so we will have to table this activity for a later GGF. The one activity we definitely want to followup on is the idea of spinning off a Campus Grids RG. I propose we request a BOF at GGF16, with the goal of gauging interest in the European projects for such an organization. We already know from the GGF15 workshop that there is significant interest in the US. To this end, we need a draft charter to submit when we request the session. We should also request an RG working session for a business meeting. This will primarily focus on the activities the group needs to follow up on, and make commitments for future GGF conferences, including planning future workshops.
