August 2010 13:33 -- An: 'gin@ogf.org' -- Cc: 'David Wallom' -- Betreff: GIN additional co-chair election process -- -- Dear GIN members, -- -- -- I really much appreciate that we experience more and more activities within the interoperability realm in the -- last year and that -- some of you already discussed with me SC2010 plans. Therefore, I believe it makes sense to fill the additional -- co-chair positions -- currently available in GIN to further push our interoperability efforts as well. -- -- The election of the new co-chairs is an open process and the group decides. But please keep in mind that these -- positions should be -- filled as soon as possible and that these individuals should really invest time in the activity. -- -- Hence, to support a faster election process, I already discussed with members of OGF and GIN folks possible -- candidates in the last -- months. -- -- -- I would therefore like to take the opportunity to recommend the group setup (in addition to my role) as follows: -- -- -- -- (1) -- I recommend that Steve Crouch (U o Southampton, UK) would be one of the additional co-chairs. -- -- Steve is active in GIN since a long time mainly though his major involvement in the continuation of the HPC- -- Basic Profile interop* -- demos under the GIN umbrella. -- -- His major work would be to further push these HPC-Basic Profile interop* activities and further extend them as -- best as possible. One -- example might be the integration of other specifications like the file staging profile over time; another -- example how we can augment -- this demo with a complementary compliance check. -- -- I already discussed this with Steve and he is willing to take this role once selected by the group. -- -- -- -- (2) -- In addition to Steve and myself, I recommend that Kazushige Saga (NII, Japan) would be one of the additional co- -- chairs. -- -- Kazu is actively working with us in GIN and its spin-off PGI with much enthusiasm. His participation, in OGF in -- general and in the -- context of GIN/PGI/HPC-BP demos in particular, is well known by colleagues in the interop* community and beyond. -- -- Furthermore, with having already two European co-chairs with Steve and me, Kazu would be a suitable candidate in -- order to -- demonstrate that GIN is actively steered from members beyond Europe as well. -- -- I already discussed this with Kazu and he is willing to take this role once selected by the group. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Finally, please send me any serious objections (privately) to the proposed setup. -- -- If I do not receive significant objections until the end of this week (2010-08-06), I see this setup as being -- agreed by the group. -- -- Afterwards, I will be once again in contact with our 'OGF e-Research Function' vice president David Wallom (cc) -- to officially -- confirm the above recommended setup. -- -- -- Your co-chair, -- Morris -- ------------------------------------------------------------ -- Morris Riedel -- Deputy Division Leader -- Distributed Systems and Grid Computing Division -- -- Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) -- Info: http://www.fz-juelich.de/jsc/JSCPeople/riedel -- --
