Here are the steps to OGSA-AuthN identified by David. We have already started on some of these but I include them here for completeness. Alan Begin forwarded message:

Hi Alan,
Formally, the group is not approved, and a few things need to happen for that first (but it's great to see a lot fo technical discussion on the list, and that proves the raison-d'etre for the group):
- the charter needs to be updated to reflect the documents we agreed on during the BoF session, including the immediate documents and the ones we agreed to postpone - the focus section of the charter should be updated accordingly - and (possibly) the answers to the 7 questions revisited to match the charter.
As for a co-chair, I would definitely prefer having a new name there to help drive the group forward (preferably one with a bit of time to dedicate to that activity). Tom is a good choice, if he does not bite there have been quite a few active on the list that might be considered.
Once there is rough consensus on the charter and the 7 questions, Blair and I can bring the group forward to the GFSG and have it formally start. That can hopefully all be done by email quite quickly, if we manage to have a focussed thread on these two short documents which does not digress into a technical topical discussion. Can you start that thread, based on the draft charter, the activity summary we made during the BoF session (see below) and the 7-questions list?
The most convenient way is probably to use a gridforge Wiki for the charter (either under the OGSA-WG Wiki, or use the security area wiki for that, I don't mind either way).
Can you initiate that discussion on the OGSA-AuthN-BoF mailing list?
Cheers, DavidG.

OK, is this group going to proceed? My goals for starting it were to try to form the standards basis for incorporating federated identity and other related concepts into the realm of defined standards for submitting jobs to and making use of services on the grid. The mission seems to have been expanded from this slightly to incorporate tasks related to documenting and extending a standards basis to username/password access, although I am not really happy about that. The discussion from the Shibboleth community does seem to be healthy so far.
To go forward, it would be useful to know: - Is the OGSA-AuthN group approved? (If so, by what body -- I've always been a little fuzzy on the details) Is the charter sufficient in its present form, as refined in OGF-19, to make progress? - Who will be the co-chairs? We went forward at the BOF with me and David. I am happy to hear your suggestions here. Tom Scavo comes to mind, if we do need a substitute for one of the above. (I had pursued Nate since he seemed to have some definite ideas and experience, but am willing and eager to hear yoru recommendations). I will NOT be able to make it to OGF-20, unless clouts open and money rains from them on my project...
