Hi, I have a couple of small comments that arose from the previous telcon. On slide 8 you have a bunch of existing specs that you could use for metadata. Some of these, CIM, SQL, XQuery have semantics associated with them while xsd does not. This then begs the question how important are semantics in this context and should this be specified in some way or not? It may be possible that these will grow out of communities but if communities want to talk to each other then a semantical problem will ensue. The Ohio folks suggested generating some top level ontologies that could be specialised by groups. Folks would then be starting off from a common set of parents. I don't know whether this is in scope or going out too much to the semantic Grid. Does anyone have any strong views on this? How important are the semantics of metadata? Is this something that should be considered or that we should label as being out of scope? Mario On Mon, 22 Nov 2004, Simon Laws wrote:

Dave's agenda for tomorrow (attached) includes a section on metadata. If anyone has any more feedback about the stories that have been documented to date ( http://forge.gridforum.org/projects/ogsa-wg/document/Metadata_Stories/en/2 ) then please forward them to me. For example, is there metadata missing, are there usage scenarios that are not covered. Any feedback I get by tomorrow morning (UK time) will be included in the new version of the presentation.
Regards
Simon
