Call for Nominations (CFN) - IEEE TCSC Award for Excellence (Technical Achievement) - 2022 The IEEE TCSC Award for Excellence (Technical Achievement) is awarded for significant and sustained contributions to the scalable computing community through the IEEE Technical Committee on Scalable Computing (TCSC), coupled with an outstanding record of high quality and high impact research. The award consists of a plaque and an honorarium of $1000. The past recipients of the IEEE TCSC award of excellence are: Jack Dongarra (University of Tennessee, USA) in 2008, Rajkumar Buyya (University of Melbourne, Australia) in 2009, William Gropp (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA) in 2010, Albert Zomaya (University of Sydney, Australia) in 2011, David Abramson (Monash University, Australia) in 2012, Marc Snir (Argonne National Laboratory, USA) in 2013, Yves Robert (UMR CNRS, ENS Lyon, INRIA, France) in 2014, Ian Foster (University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory, USA) in 2015, Sartaj Sahni (University of Florida, USA) in 2016, Laurence T. Yang (St. Francis Xavier University, Canada) in 2017, Minyi Guo (Shanghai Jiaotong University) in 2018, Schahram Dustdar (TU Wien, Austria) in 2019, Jinjun Chen (Swinburne, Australia) in 2020, and Abdulmotaleb El Saddik (University of Ottawa, Canada) in 2021. Nominations: A candidate may be nominated by colleagues/TCSC members or may nominate him/her-self. An individual can nominate at most one candidate for this award. The candidate must be an IEEE, IEEE CS, and TCSC member in good standing. Nomination must be submitted via email to the selection committee chair. A nomination application (as a single PDF file) should contain the following details: 1. Professional Employment Affiliations: List the nominee's current professional affiliations and titles. 2. Citation: Give a brief citation (thirty words or less) precisely stating the most salient reason(s) why the nominee is qualified for the award. 3. Technical Contributions: Describe the nominee's technical achievements in scalable computing as well as significance and impact. (Max 2-page length) 4. TCSC Contribution: Describe the candidate’s service and specific contributions to TCSC. (Max 2-page length) 5. Endorsers: Each nomination must be supported by letter from three at least endorsers. An endorser can endorse only one candidate for this award. The endorsers will be required to comment on the nominee's technical contributions as well as service contributions to the TCSC. This digest can be considered an extended abstract of the thesis and must be limited to six pages and structured very similarly to a regular paper. Cyber Security risks continue to evolve as well in both quantity in the same domains as well new types and ways on how to break into computing systems, software applications, websites, databases, programmable networks etc. For example, monitoring the car manufacturing industry, we can see that recent car models have more complex hardware components and automated programmable features in comparison with their earlier models, this will increase the risk associated with protecting such systems. Same thing can be applicable to most other engineering products. Such complex hardware and programmable techniques bring security opportunities to change the way cyber security controls (e.g. firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), etc.) are developed and enforced. They also bring security challenges related to our computing systems and software architectures or any changes that can be directly or indirectly related to them due to the complex interactions between them. The International Symposium on Future Cyber Security Technologies (FCST 2022) will focus on issues related to future cyber security challenges as well as opportunities which mainly highlight the above mentioned aspects. December 12-15, 2022 Technically Co-Sponsored by IEEE France Section *SDS 2022 CFP:* Next generation cloud systems will require a paradigm shift in how they are constructed and managed. Conventional control and management platforms are facing considerable challenges regarding flexibility, dependability and security that next generation systems will require. The cloud computing paradigm has gone part of the way towards alleviating some of the problems associated with resource allocation, utilization and management (e.g., via elasticity). However, many of the elements of a well-designed cloud environment remain “stiff” and hard to modify and adapt in an integrated fashion. This includes underlying networking topologies, many aspects of the user control over IaaS, PaaS or SaaS layers when such is needed, construction of XaaS services, provenance and meta-data collection, and so on. In many situations the problem may be because service abstraction is inadequate. Software Defined Systems (SDS) are systems that have added software components which help abstract actual IT equipment and other layers. One classical example, of course, are hypervisors. Such separation provides a great opportunity for system administrators to more easily construct and managing their systems through flexible software layers. Software Defined Systems include Software Defined Networking (SDN), Software Defined Storage, Software Defined Servers (Virtualization), Software Defined Datacenters (SDD), Software Defined Security (SDSec), and ultimately Software Defined Clouds (SDCloud) to name a few possibilities. Individual solutions and seamless integration of these abstractions remains in many respects a challenge. After the high success of the previous editions (SDS'2014, SDS'2015, SDS'2016, SDS'2017, SDS'2018, SDS' 2019, SDS' 2020 and SDS' 2021), The Ninth International conference on Software Defined Systems (SDS'2022) will continue to be a forum for scientists, researchers, students, and practitioners to present their latest research results, ideas, and developments in the area of software defined systems – both components and their integration - and by implication advancement of next generation clouds. SDS 2022 aims to investigate the opportunities and in all aspects of Software Defined Systems. In addition, it seeks for novel contributions that help mitigating SDS challenges. That is, the objective of SDS 2022 is to provide a forum for scientists, engineers, and researchers to discuss and exchange new ideas, novel results and experience on all aspects of Software Defined Systems. All papers should be in PDF format, and submitted electronically at Paper Submission Link. A full paper can be up to 8 pages (including all figures, tables and references). Submitted papers must present original unpublished research that is not currently under review for any other conference or journal. Papers not following these guidelines may be rejected without review. Also, submissions received after the due date, exceeding length limit, or not appropriately structured may also not be considered. Authors may contact the Program Chair for further information or clarification. All submissions are peer-reviewed by at least three reviewers. Accepted papers will appear in the SDS Proceeding, and be published by the IEEE Computer Society Conference Publishing Services and be submitted to IEEE Xplore for inclusion. Submitted papers must include original work, and must not be under consideration for another conference or journal. Submission of regular papers up to 8 pages and must follow the IEEE paper format. Please include up to 7 keywords, complete postal and e-mail address, and fax and phone numbers of the corresponding author. Authors of accepted papers are expected to present their work at the conference. Submitted papers that are deemed of good quality but that could not be accepted as regular papers will be accepted as short papers.
