Comment re Ref Model and SysML

All, On the call yesterday I mentioned that SysML, a UML Profile focused on systems engineering might be interesting. Upon investigation it appears too focused on hardware systems (automotive and such like) to be useful for the reference model work. I thought they might mean systems engineering in the sense of data center and computer systems engineering (extending beyond software). It does not seem to. Cheers Paul

Unexpected compassion leave

Folks, due to an unexpected emergency incident at home, I have to take off for at least the rest of the week. OGSA-WG: I will not be able to attend conference calls, particularly this week Thursday (having OGSA-Workflow scheduled). OGSA-DMI-WG: I will not be able to host the scheduled conference call this week Wednesday. Unless anybody else can back me up, the call will be cancelled. Action Items for OGSA and Reference Model

Hi all, The following is Action Items for OGSA and Reference Model. Under new telecon structure, we will review only relevant action items at each slot (2 slot per call). From OGF19 session #2 AI-0122a: Hiro and Paul will do strawman of the joint OGSA/Reference Model document by OGF19 AI-0122b: Paul will update the agenda of the Reference model BOF session. (Hiro will send Paul a pointer on how to do this update.) From Oct. 23 call AI-1023c: Tom volunteered to review Hiro's HPC Cluster use case slides and make appropriate changes to indicate where the CIM Profile would fit in and how it would link into the Reference Model. AI-1023d: Paul will add more items to list on slide 6 of the HPC Cluster use case AI-1023g: Hiro will look at other parts of slide 5 and identify further possible refinements of this use case. In OS virtualization, guest operating systems are isolated from physical computational resources. In server virtualization, application servers are isolated from physical server resources. In network virtualization, network services or applications are isolated from physical network resources. One of the major features of Grids is the sharing of heterogeneous resources, which can be facilitated by various levels of virtualization. In other words, Grids should provide holistic or end-to-end virtualization. It is obvious that proper resource management is key to providing effective virtualization. However, resource management for virtualization is a challenge (as opposed to typical resource management) in that there is no trivial way of virtualizing resources and presenting virtualized resources to the upper layers. It is even a bigger challenge when end-to-end (E2E) virtualization is considered, for example, when OS and server virtualization interplay with storage and network virtualization for providing an effective E2E virtualized environment. This workshop will offer a unique opportunity for researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas and experiences on problems, challenges, solutions and potential future research, as well as development issues, in this new field of E2E Virtualization and Grid Management. In addition to paper presentations, the workshop provides an intimate setting for discussion and debate through panels and group work.
