April 20-23, 2020 Technically Co-Sponsored by IEEE France Section *SDS 2020 CFP:* Next generation cloud systems will require a paradigm shift in how they are constructed and managed. Conventional control and management platforms are facing considerable challenges regarding flexibility, dependability and security that next generation systems will require. The cloud computing paradigm has gone part of the way towards alleviating some of the problems associated with resource allocation, utilization and managements (e.g., via elasticity). However, many of the elements of a well-designed cloud environment remain “stiff” and hard to modify and adapt in an integrated fashion. This includes underlying networking topologies, many aspects of the user control over IaaS, PaaS or SaaS layers when such is needed, construction of XaaS services, provenance and meta-data collection, and so on. In many situations the problem may be because service abstraction is inadequate. Software Defined Systems (SDS) are systems that have added software components which help abstract actual IT equipment and other layers. One classical example, of course, are hypervisors. Such separation provides a great opportunity for system administrators to more easily construct and managing their systems through flexible software layers. Software Defined Systems include Software Defined Networking (SDN), Software Defined Storage, Software Defined Servers (Virtualization), Software Defined Datacenters (SDD), Software Defined Security (SDSec), and ultimately Software Defined Clouds (SDCloud) to name a few possibilities. Individual solutions and seamless integration of these abstractions remains in many respects a challenge. After the high success of the previous editions (SDS'2014, SDS'2015, SDS'2016, SDS'2017, SDS'2018, SDS' 2019), The Seventh International conference on Software Defined Systems 2020 (SDS'2020) will continue to be a forum for scientists, researchers, students, and practitioners to present their latest research results, ideas, and developments in the area of software defined systems – both components and their integration - and by implication advancement of next generation clouds. SDS 2020 aims to investigate the opportunities and in all aspects of Software Defined Systems. In addition, it seeks for novel contributions that help mitigating SDS challenges. That is, the objective of SDS 2020 is to provide a forum for scientists, engineers, and researchers to discuss and exchange new ideas, novel results and experience on all aspects of Software Defined Systems. Blockchain has a great potential to create new foundations for our socio-economic systems by efficiently establishing trust among people and machines, reducing cost, and increasing utilization of resources. On one hand, blockchain will play an important role for secure decentralization in such emerging fields as Internet of Things, Cyber Physical Systems, edge computing, social networking, crowdsourcing and next generation wireless communications, and even more other fields. On the other hand, its advance should be further evolved in terms of scalability, security, privacy, efficiency, flexibility, availability, real decentralization and high dependability. Following the great success of IEEE Blockchain 2019, held in Atlanta, USA, IEEE Blockchain 2018, held in Halifax, Canada, the 2020 IEEE International Conference on Blockchain (Blockchain-2020) will provide a high-profile, leading-edge forum for researchers, engineers, and practitioners to present latest advances and innovations in key theories, infrastructure, schemes, and significant applications for the blockchain, as well as to identify emerging research topics and define the future. Topics The emergence and popularity of blockchain techniques will significantly change the way of digital and networking systems’ operation and management. In the meantime, the application of blockchain will exhibit a variety of complicated problems and new requirements, which brings more open issues and challenges for research communities. New applications, such as virtual reality and smart building control, have emerged due to the large number of resources and services brought by cloud computing. However, the delay-sensitive applications face the problem of large latency, especially when several smart devices and objects are getting involved in human’s life such as the case of smart cities or Internet of Things. Therefore, cloud computing is unable to meet the requirements of low latency, location awareness, and mobility support. To solve this problem, researchers have introduced a trusted and dependable solution through the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC) to put the services and resources of the cloud closer to users, which facilitates the leveraging of available services and resources in the edge networks. By this, we are moving from the core (cloud data centers) to the edge of the network closer to the users. FMEC dependability is based on providing user centric service. The purpose of Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing is to run the heavy real-time applications at the network edge directly using the billions of connected mobile devices. Several features enable the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing to be a perfect paradigm to the aforementioned purpose, which are the dense geographical deployment of servers, supporting mobility and the closeness to users. As in every new technology, some challenges face the vision of the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing, which are the administrative policies and security concerns (i.e. secure data storage, secure computation, network security, data privacy, usage privacy, location privacy, etc). On the other hand, Information-Centric Networking (ICN), software-defined network (SDN), network function virtualization (NFV), network slicing, and data center network have emerged as the novel networking paradigms for fast and efficient delivering and retrieving data. Against this backdrop, there is a strong trend to move the computations from the cloud to not only the edges but also the resource-sufficient networking nodes, which triggers the convergence between the emerging networking concepts and the new computation technologies. The ultimate goals for networking researches include intelligence, trust, and efficiency, which can be enhanced by or benefit for the intelligent computations. There are many open challenges for the emerging network concepts to meet the intelligent computations: what computations should be embedded; which node should be enforced with the computation; how can the computations, such as big data analytics, security, AI, machine learning, blockchain, be seamlessly embedded into the network and enable it to be efficient, trustworthy and accountable; how to fast locate the required and suitable computation nodes; how to efficiently transfer data through series of computation nodes; how to efficiently collect and process the big networking data; how to design networking architectures and protocols to easily support the efficient and diverse computations; how to achieve ultra-low latency communications with distributed computations; and how to migrate from the Internet to the computation-enabled network. The NMIC workshop 2020 solicits the papers that address the technical challenges and applications of the distributed computations for networking, the intelligent computations supported by the novel networking technologies, and the enforcement of series of computations. We envision that the combination of computations with networking will provide more effective computation support for applications and enable the network to be more intelligent, trustworthy, and efficient. Smaller scale events typically involve local law enforcement and emergency responders. On the other hand, when large scale disasters occur, they can cause widespread damage and overwhelm the ability of local governments and authorities to respond. In such situations, Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) is essential for a rapid and robust response. Across the spectrum of these operations, IoT, Smart Cities, and Smart Environments can significantly improve the ability of emergency responders to quickly understand the situation and conditions (also known as developing Situation Awareness). IoT can help with assessing potential damage that has been caused (e.g., to the city infrastructure, communications and power grid, road conditions, transportation services, etc.). Application of IoT to supply chain management can provide very rapid insights into the logistical situation and result it faster resupply of critically needed materials. User-centered / peer-to-peer IoT services can enable victims to help each other, thereby accelerating the recovery effort. The consumption of electrical energy (i.e. the use of air conditioning, audio and video devices or electric heating) is increasing every year due; firstly, to the increase of the population and secondly by the appearance of new form of consumption, such as electric cars. The dilemma with this increase consumption is, how to ensure the balance between supply and demand for electricity at all times? To address this problem, the idea of placing the new generation of Internet of Energy to control this energy has appeared in recent literature in different flavors in order to provide electric power supply secure, sustainable and competitive to consumers. In addition, the revolution on the Internet of Energy involves a significant change inside of the consumer where consumers will also become a producer with the ability of energy storage such as in the vehicle battery, or as local generation sources such as photovoltaic panels. The main problem in the development of the Internet of Energy is not located at the physical medium but mainly in the delivery of reliability and security. The possibility of fitting with active or passive attacks on the Internet of Energy network is great to divulge privacy and disrupt energy (e.g. Wormhole Attack, False Data Injection Attack, Black Hole Attack, Grey Hole Attack, DoS Attack, Physical Layer Attack, Colluding Adversary Attack, Routing Table Overflow Attack etc.). Therefore, the security requirements, including authentication, accountability, integrity, non-repudiation, access control and confidentiality should be paid more attention in the future for high-performance Internet of Energy.
