F2F meeting schedule changed

Hi all, At the OGSA session yesterday. We agreed the following schedule changes for our Friday F2F meetings. - No Info model session since we've all done yesterday. - Shorten JSDL session from 2 hour to 1 hour. - Move DMI session from Friday afternoon to the morning. - Thus we will close Friday meeting at noon. You can escape from DC before Friday rush hour :-) As Marty has suggested by his email, we are also likely to have NO HPC profile session on Thursday. HPC Profile meeting *ONLY* on tomorrow (Wed), not Thursday too

Folks, Originally, we scheduled TWO meetings for the HPC Profile WG -- one for the GGF proper and the other for the subsequent F2F. We did this because we felt that we potentially had a lot to discuss. Over the past month or two, many of these issues have either (a) been resolved, or (b) properly delegated to the JSDL WG or BES WG as appropriate. In other words, we feel that it is appropriate to only have *ONE* session instead of two. Therefore, we are *CANCELING* the Thursday session in the OGSA F2F (which was supposed to meet Thursday at 3:30-5pm). Note that we decided to cancel Thursday's meeting as opposed to tomorrow's meeting because (a) we believe that discussions in the main GGF session would result in a larger and broader audience, and (b) both Marvin and I would have had to rush out of the meeting Thursday evening to try to satisfy travel constraints. Introduction ------------- Knowledge Discovery has been widely accepted as a key technology for enterprises and organizations to improve their abilities in data analysis, decision support, and the automatic extraction of knowledge from data. With the exponential growing amount of information to be included in the decision making process, the data to be considered becomes more and more complex in both structure and semantics, located in heterogeneous and distributed systems. Furthermore, the explosive growth and popularity of the world-wide web has resulted in a huge number of information sources on the Internet. Consequently, the process of retrieval and knowledge discovery from this huge amount of heterogeneous complex data builds the litmus-test for the research in the area. Information Integration subsumes all technologies needed to provide form manipulation of information scattered over many information systems while supporting a single system image. Information integration has been a long standing challenge for the database community in the last decades. Although there are several distinct research and development areas explicitly or implicitly addressing data integration, the schematic and semantic heterogeneity is still one of the most difficulties in the integration of heterogeneous knowledge and information systems - one of the perquisite steps of knowledge discovery process. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers, developers, and practitioners to present their recent work, discuss and identify problems, synergize different views of techniques and policies, and brainstorm future research/development directions on semantic information integration used in knowledge discovery. The research on progress, draft idea, architecture submissions are also welcome. Ladies and Gentlemen, Recently I was asked by members of the BES working group to describe some of the work that we (the VCGR group at Uva) have been doing on a project we call Genesis II. Specifically, the work is grid technology based on existing and emerging web and OGF standards and is of particular interest to BES because it uses WS-Naming and "proto"-RNS to easy job management and control. However, it's also relevant to ByteIO in so much as it also contains an implementation of some of the ByteIO port types and talks about possible uses for promoting better grid control and usability as well. Later I was asked by Hiro on the OGSA telecon about this as well, so here is a paper that I wrote which details experiences creating, and motivation behind Genesis II. The document contains more information than just the RNS/ByteIO/BES interactions, but those are included as well. This paper is in draft form and has been assigned a University of Virginia, Computer Science Department Tech. Report number of "CS-2006-16".
