EMS discussion is set for Tuesday morning, which is good as it allows him to dial in. - DMTF alliance meeting: Ellen has arranged for the GGF meetings to be on Thursday so she can participate in the F2F until Wednesday. - Everyone intending to participate should send passport details to ANL. US citizens are better off sending their details also as it speeds the entry process. ACTION: The chairs to send out what registration is needed to enter ANL for the F2F. - Agenda corrections: - "GGF18 planning" on Thursday * EMS scenario discussion - Andreas sent out updated draft before the call. - Where do licenses fit in this scenario? - Scenario is intended to work out relationship between JSDL and CDL, so licences are not a part of it. (Could deal with them in a number of different ways: reserve/allocate before installing the software. Floating licenses might mean no delay at installation but cause a wait at runtime) - BLAST may not be appropriate example - The text is already changed to empasize that BLAST is an example. Better suggestions welcome. - There are 3 empty sections where the CDL should go. It is not necessary to have the entire component definitions, just the top level document. - ACS interaction should be added (separate scenario). Some points where it should fit in have been highlighted. The plan is to have a first draft of the entire scenarios document (up to and including cddlm interaction) by the July F2F and review it with the intention of submitting to GGF as an informational document. Roadmap Editor organization

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I took a first pass over the "activities going forward" list, and it occurs to me that the optimal strategy for the moment would be to try and break these out to specific action items - these can be very high- level actions at first, with increasing levels of refinement as we understand the problems more. I suggest that everyone who intends to participate in the editing process read the current 1.1 draft document and spreadsheet, as well as the "going forward document from Jem Treadwell". All of these are available from: https://forge.gridforum.org/docman2/ViewCategory.php? group_id=42&category_id=945 For example, one of the tasks is to review the tracker items with respect to the current document and decide how we will respond or alter the document based on the trackers. I will take this as an action item. Another is to review and update the status of the various OGSA documents, including newly-added documents-in-progress. This might be a good task for Dona. I can also take the action of reviewing the various text sections and updating them to correspond with the information gathered by Dona, and whoever else works on it. These seem to be the largest and most important tasks, and the ones I felt comfortable taking or assigned. Please review the activities document and let me and Jem Treadwell, at least, know if you are interested in taking on any of the additional items, or if you'd be interested in helping with some of the high-level tasks mentioned above. I'm happy to give regular status reports and have some public discussion on the ogsa-wg e-mail forum, and on the conference calls, but I'd also like to keep most of the editor-specific traffic off the big mailing lists, if possible. We've tentatively chosen Wednesdays at 3PM PDT/6PM EDT as the time for conference calls related to roadmap-editing discussions. I think tomorrow may be too soon to start really having detailed discussions, but if I don't hear from anyone else maybe just Dona and I can speak on the phone for a few. Then let's plan on beginning official calls two weeks from now (Jun 7th), when Dona has returned from vacation, and we will communicate via e-mail in the meantime. Is this ok with everyone? Please note that I'd like to move quickly to assign tasks and begin making progress on this, as it seems that it will be a large, complicated task. If you are seriously committed to participating in the document editing process, please speak and participate soon, as at some point I think we have to close the door to new volunteers, just for the sake of efficiency.. Expect invitations to be sent out to the list in the near future. * OGSA Information Model - Information Modeling in OGSA - Position Paper https://forge.gridforum.org/projects/ogsa-wg/document/Info_Model_position_p… - BES Information Model https://forge.gridforum.org/projects/ogsa-wg/document/BES_info_model - These are the same versions that were discussed at GGF17. - Fred also requested feedback by email for guideline document. - Andrew has put the table of elements in the BES document (with no rendering). The main issue discussed was the difference between the approach proposed for a (minimal/)general element that can be used to express <name,value> pairs, with the value part being typeless VS extension using an xsd:any and defining a schema. - (See also minutes of GGF17 and April 27.) - There has been experience with both approaches - Difference is relying on explicit typing vs convention; and checking types when validating vs matching time (fail in a subtle fashion) - Discussed whether stronger typing with a schema makes for easier checking. Having an xsd:any doesn't help as much as people might think for checking types; matching might still fail later. - It is still necessary to define conventions. Need to define a set of <name,value> conventions - Andrew's issue is whether the value (in (<name,value>) is typed. - Type checking information is needed somewhere; and wouldn't want to have it only in the code Jay's proposal: 1. minimal; or 2. minimal approach + type checking for base types (e.g., int, float, boolean etc) Agreed to seek the opinions of people who have done work with these approaches on the pros and cons of each approach: - schema/typed: EGEE, Glite - minimal/convention: Condor, LSF ACTION: Jay will contact Platform (Chris Smith) and Condor (Miron Livny) to get feedback on pros / cons of the two rendering approaches ACTION: Darren/Andreas will take the Modeling position paper and discuss it within the JSDL-WG as well * RNS document discussion A revised, simplified, draft was uploaded before GGF17 by Manuel Pereira. It was discussed at GGF17. The purpose of this review was to confirm whether this new draft meets the requirements of other stakeholders and whether it can be submitted to the GGF Editor. There were some comments and requests for clarifications and minor changes but overall it was agreed that this is a good draft and that it meets stakeholders requirements for simplicity and extensibility. Chris Jordan will incorporate the feedback into a new draft, to be ready sometime next week. * OGSA Roadmap document process Jem went through a list of work items (to be uploaded to gridforge) - Main job is updating document set, dependencies and milestones for the document. So a lot of the work is identifying people that will contribute data. - The current infrastructure (excel sheet & pasting) needs a lot of manual work. It works but a better (more automatic) approach might be nice. Hiro thanked all the people volunteering. He explained that the GGF Editor has placed limits on how many names (authors/editors) may appear on the front page. Current rule is not more than three with other people contributing to the work being identified in a separate section. - Dona said she would be happy to contribute to this work in any capacity. - It was agreed that Chris Jordan will replace Jem as the main editor of the Roadmap since he has been involved in OGSA-WG longer than the other volunteers.
