Dear All, I have updated the SP - SC document as we discussed in the Nov 27 conference call, and I think it's ready for FINAL CALL. Please have a look through the document. Any comments are welcomed. Glossary defs: SLA/SLO

Hi, as you saw in Andreas's minutes, we reviewed a few more terms on Monday's call, in the continuing convergence of the EGA and OGSA glossaries. We decided not to include DMTF, and we reviewed "utility computing," but decided not to include it for the time being - we'll revisit that decision later. We reviewed SLA and SLO. For SLA, I've converged the two definitions by reducing the wordiness of the OGSA definition and adding the concept of payment, which was in the EGA definition. The definition of SLO is unchanged from the OGSA version, because the definitions were consistent Service-level agreement: A contract between a provider and a user that specifies the level of service that is expected during the term of the contract. SLAs are used by vendors and customers, as well as internally by IT shops and their end users. They might specify availability requirements and response times for normal operations and for problem resolution (network down, machine failure, etc.), and they might stipulate the payment and/or penalties associated with meeting or failing to meet the agreed criteria. See also: Service-level objective Service-level objective: A target level of service for a resource or a set of resources. An SLO might be expressed in units such as average response time for a representative set of transaction types, or in terms of the monthly availability of a given service. OGSA AuthN BOF charter session approved at OGF-19; input on HPC profile use case and other documents requested

Dear OGSA-AuthN BOF participants, I received word today that our request to schedule a charter BOF for OGSA Authentication has been approved for OGF-19. The organizers hope to have a preliminary schedule for all sessions available by the end of this week. In a related item, the participants in the group working on the "HPC profile" would like feedback regarding authentication specifications within this profile. If anyone has one, and feels that discussions on this do not stray too far into OGSA-AuthZ territory, please forward it to me. (The links I have been able to find all date from the 2004 time period except for some from early 2006, which indicate that WS-Agreement was to supersede WS-Policy; those who know more please speak up.) I would like to get the above background work behind us, with a clean set of references for newcomers and a clear document list, both for existing documents and those "to be written," before the BOF assembles in North Carolina at the end of January. Please review the above and make suggestions for a working set of reading material that will help us get off to a good start with a clear vision of the standards and practices documentation/recommendation gaps that we need to fill as a group.
