Roadmap 1.1 documents

Hi, Per discussion on Monday's call I've now set up initial versions of the Roadmap 1.1 document and the spreadsheet. * I moved the Roadmap 1.0 documents to the Published Documents Folder. * I created a new Roadmap 1.1 folder in the Working Drafts folder. * Andreas has set up a Roadmap 1.1 tracker. We agreed that we should begin updating the Roadmap sections and the spreadsheet as changes to documents and references become known, so that the working draft can be seen as a reasonable accurate view of the state, even though the published document will become outdated. Before making changes, though, you should open a tracker to describe the change. Takuya will make the first change. Note: For the spreadsheet, I added an "auto_open" macro that automatically takes you to the Index page and protects all the other pages when you open it. That way, you get a consistent view and state every time you open it, regardless of how it was last left. This does have an undesirable side-effect that even if you make no other changes Excel will always ask you if you want to save it when you close. Sorry about that! Here's the list of UML tools I promised on the call last week. I think Hiro is going to put this on the agenda for the Wednesday call. I haven't included tools that are not free (at least for non-commercial use) since that was the main requirement. Obviously the list is not exhaustive; and I have not tried all of these. Comments wrt Secure Channel 1.0 Profile

Two nits, one general comment. - Von Section 3.2.1: I find it odd that while for message-level security encryption is mandated, it's not for TLS (as I read the BSP-1.0 document, it's optional). Is this intentional or is encryption assumed with TLS? General comment: In part the above comment comes from the fact that the document doesn't clarify what a "secure channel" is. At the architectural level, what does the use of this profile provide? It seems to be the intention that it is a channel has authentication, privacy and integrity attributes, but that is only implied. R0312, R0313, R0314, R0315, R0316: "When using Message Level Security..." This phrase seems confusing since many of the instances discussed don't actually occur at the time messages are being sent. I would suggest "In order to support Message Level Security..."

Mark, I'm going to chime in on a few points you make... Your question number 3... 3) wsa:address identifies a resource, it has a IRI, but is that the same thing that the AbstractName is meant to identify? The suggestion that I was making is that the wsa:address CAN be the abstract name. Especially given that in the presence of wsdl port bindings there is no need for it to be the URL (and I mean Locator here) of the resource. I expect that the WS Addressing WSDL Binding will address this issue. Think of the wsa:address as a 'logical' address. Your statement 4... 4) A WSRF WS-Resource has this concept of being composed of two things, a Web Service and a resource - http://docs.oasis-open.org/wsrf/wsrf-ws_resource-1.2-spec-pr-02.pdf (personally I prefer to thing of a WS-Resource as a single thing)- so is the AbstractName ment to identify the resource or the Web Service. (Of course according to W3C Web Services Architecture the Web service is a resource as well) I prefer to think of a WS-Resource as a Resource that happens to have a Web Service interface. And yes the AbstractName is meant to identify the resource which is why I want to use the <wsa:address> (IRI) for that. Your question 5.... 5) A scenario from RealityGrid (http://www.realitygrid.org)- I am working in collaboration with others, I have a job running on resource provider A's machine, the job has an EPR and the A gives it an AbstractName, I migrate the job to another machine provided by B, it has a new EPR and B gives it a different AbstractName. This is not what I want - I want the job to have the same AbstractName after I migrate it so that my fellow collaborators can find it. Can a client add an AbstractName to an EPR, or is only the EPR minter allowed to do that? The AbstractName is immutable (based on the rules defined thus far). Btw, I don't think this is a problem if you view the <wsa:address> (IRI) as logical and the addresses (protocol bound) as the wsdl port binding addresses which is what (I believe) the WS-Addressing WSDL Binding will contemplate. Your question 6... 6) Can I use the AbstractName to identify a particular conversation I am having with a Web service? I guess you could but I would use reference parameters for this..... Tom
