Folks, this is to bring to your attention that I have to step down as WG chair, for various reasons. Unfortunately, this is in effect pretty much from immediately, so I urge the ML to discuss and come up with a replacement for me. I have contacted Ravi Madduri, the current co-chair, and the OGF Data Area directors. Sorry for the unpleasant news. Cheers, Michel

Role of the DataEPR ---------------------- - The group discusses the role of the DataEPR and the data wrapper complex data structure. - The group conjectures that defining the complex data wrapper is necessary. - The group postpones the decision whether to envelope that data wrapper in a wsa:EndpointReference or not to a later point in time when more information is available 3) Information contained in the Data Wrapper -------------------------------------------- - It contains a sequence of dmi:Data elements - dmi:Data element has two attributes -- protocol URI (defining the protocol to use for the data transfer itself) -- protocol dependent URI (to use for passing into the invocation of the data transfer protocol). --- this URI is a translation/mapping of whatever eveloping abstract data structure (e.g. EPR) defines the file in question for movement. - Michel proposes an additional attribute, called for now "style", that describes the data storage's capability for that particular data transfer protocol, whenther it can operate in "push", "pull", or "3rd pary" mode. -- For example, a source denotes a "push" capability for FTP, and a sink denotes "push" for its own FTP capability as well, then DMI must rule out FTP as a possible data transfer protocol between those two storage locations. -- What about the value 3rd party? --- This denotes a setup where data channels are opened between source and sink, and two control channels from a controlling agent to source and sink, respectively. - The group concludes consensus on the layout of hte complex data wrapper element, except for Steve's confirmation on the proposed new "style" attribute. 4) Any other business --------------------- - Michel has to step down as WG chair, and even possibly as an active member of the group. - The group discusses several possible consequences to that decision. - The group agreed that Michel should contact Ravi Madduri, and the Data ADs, and then put it on the mailing list.

Folks, here's an update on the action items that have changed (or that I changed). artf5845 - No WSRF artifacts found. Closed. artf5933 - Document delivered and discussed. Closed. artf5932 - "Create XML for use cases for the security issue" Information partially superseded by artf5950. Information is still captured in the use case docs. Closed. artf5923 - "Undo strategy: 'Full undo'" Text added to the Functional Specification. Needs review on the next call. Done. artf5931 - "Split DONE state into two states: success and failure" Text added to the Functional Specification. Needs review on the next call. Done. artf5949 - "Consolidate and merge the two existing use case example documents" Documents merged and resulting document put on Gridforge. Review necessary on next call. Hi, Have done a simple merge (a union) of the use cases being bandied about by Steven Newhouse and Michel Drescher and placed them at: http://forge.gridforum.org/sf/go/doc14666?nav=1 The object of these is to try and understand how the DMI framework operates in simple use cases. I only rammed the two documents together so some smoothing may be required. Discussion of Data EPR What is the role of the Data EPR? Why does the data need to be within an EPR? Should we wrap data up in an EPR? Propose: Single top-level container element to contain all DMI related data. This element could appear as part of an EPRs meta-data or standalone. Agreed. Where do DEPRs come from? They must be generated to comply with the specification. But we do not say where they come from - just how they MUST be structured. requestDataTransfer operation on the DTF Should we pass in the full DEPR (that includes the DataWrapper element) or just pass in the DataWrapper element? Passing in the DEPR means that more complex negotiation scenarios could be developed in the future as there would be a reference to a web service that the DTF could go to in order to find out more information. An EPR could contain a reference to the logical data source/sink name. This EPR (not yet a Data EPR) could be passed into the DTF as part of the requestDataTransfer operation and then that service EPR is populated with the DataWrapper element so that the DTF has a enough information to undertake the transfer. Action: Michel to produce a scenario document (possibly using RNS as an example) to put in more detail as to how the DataWrapper could be produced by another service.
