Dear All, The next teleconference of the OGSA Data Architecture working group will be held on Wednesday, November 9th, 2005 at the usual time of 8:00am Pacific / 11:00am Eastern / 4:00pm UK / 5:00pm Europe. In this telcon we will review the Replication section and associated scenarios. Please read this section and scenarios and bring issues to the call. New version of ByteIO Specifications

I have uploaded new versions of the ByteIO Specification Document https://forge.gridforum.org/projects/byteio-wg/document/draft-byteio-rec-doc -v1-1/en/4 and the ByteIO WSRF Basic Profile Rendering Document https://forge.gridforum.org/projects/byteio-wg/document/draft-byteio-wsrf-re ndering-doc-v1-1/en/4 These address the comments from the session at GGF15 as well as issues raised on the telcon. Dear all, I have further updated the OGSA 1.5 document to address the comments discussed on Thursday's telcon (see attachment). This is the version I have sent to Andreas (the editor). Further discussion about this document will take place on the Monday OGSA calls. One of the issues we discussed on Thursday was whether to keep separate sections on "architectural considerations" and "properties". I've renamed "architectural considerations" to "legacy considerations", because this better describes its content - I'm happy to consider better titles for this section. I've also reworded the introductions of both sections, and moved "transformations" back to the "functionality" section. Another issue we discussed was the relationship between metadata catalogues, data discovery, and the OGSA information services. I've attempted to clarify these by saying that OGSA information services provide the framework for data discovery, but that data discovery also requires languages or ontologies for describing data. For some use cases, we may want metadata catalogues with more limited functionality, e.g. just looking up the metadata associated with a particular abstract name. These are intended to be contributions to a revised release of the OGSA document, called OGSA 1.5. We will discuss this on Thursday's OGSA-D telcon. This is being posted to the ACS and OGSA-D group for inter-group communication purposes. ACS needs to be aware of data services as they will impact the ACS specification at some point in time. The ACS specification has a non-normative section for describing relationships with other groups/activities. This is the proposed paragraph for your review - what do you think? "The OGSA Data Working Group defines the data services which provide for distribution of data on the grid. ACS can utilize protocols being specified such as Byte-IO, GridFTP, and possibly Replication. ACS provides an extension point for protocols which allow implementations to specify which protocols are supported. The ACS team has reviewed their briefings and draft documents with interest.
