Ramin,
In the most recent version of the schedule, I see the SOKU workshop scheduled first thing Monday morning (9-1230). I note that this is a draft and that Dave and the PC hold the keys to finalizing it.
Thanks,
Steve Crumb Executive Director, OGF scrumb@ogf.org +1 312-895-5931 (new)

Dear Steve,
regarding Berengere's request about information of the SOKU workshop timing:
I submitted a proposal for OGF20 on the topic: "Evolutions of GRIDs Towards Service Oriented Knowledge Utilities (SOKUs)". In the mail below, Dave Berry informed me that our proposal has been accepted but cut down to two 90 minutes slots.
As written in our proposal, we plan to bring many key European industrial stakeholders to the meeting. This could be achieved by co-allocating our industrial advisory board (IAB) meeting from CoreGRID to Manchester. That's why Berengere is eager to know on which day we will get our 2 sessions. As you might imagine we will not be able to keep these industrial people many days in Manchester. Thus, it is essential to organize our IAB meeting on the day before, after or on the same day than the workshop.
Thanks for your help.
Ramin

Thank you for submitting your proposal for a workshop at OGF20. The programme committee view the content of your proposal highly and are recommending that it go ahead, although with several caveats.
Firstly, we are very tight for workshop space at OGF20. Therefore we are allocating your workshop 2 90-minute sessions instead of the 4 that you requested. We believe this will give you adequate time for a focussed workshop that concentrates on the issues involved in SOKUs.
Secondly, I would like to bring your attention to the enterprise requirements track being organised by Bob Cohen (CC'd). This is part of an ongoing OGF process that brings key users of Grid together to discuss
requirements for Grid standards. The results of these sessions then steer the standards activities of OGF. At OGF20, sessions are planned on
following industries: Pharmaceuticals, Finance, and (in a third session) Automotive & Aerospace. If you have contacts within these industries who would be interested in participating in this activity, please contact Bob. I'm sure that CoreGrid members will be welcome to attend these sessions and hear what the industry representatives will have to say.
Thirdly, I would like to bring your attention to another track at OGF20, called "Grids Mean Business". This will present Grid solutions to a business audience, with the intention of demonstrating how Grid technologies can already solve real business problems. The focus will be on Grid users presenting case studies. In addition, the track will include one discussion session on licencing and another on security. Please let me know if any of your members would be interested in participating in any of these sessions.
Finally, we received a presentation proposal from the NextGrid
Dear PC, It seems that some Europeans will have problems travelling on the Monday of OGF20 - see Ramin's message below. Ramin makes the point for industrialists but I assume this will also affect some academics too. Of course, the Monday is also a holiday in the UK and I was rather relying on the international contingent to compensate for this. I have also received a request from Nic Walton saying they would prefer the astronomy workshop to be on the Wednesday; I don't know whether this is for the same reason. We can discuss this on next week's call. If anyone has points to add in the meantime, please do let me know. Best wishes, Dave. -----Original Message----- From: Ramin Yahyapour [mailto:ramin.yahyapour@udo.edu] Sent: 01 March 2007 09:03 To: Steve Crumb Cc: 'Berengere Fally'; Dave Berry Subject: Re: OGF20 Workshop proposal: SOKUs Dear Steve, I discussed with Berengere Fally who is helping in organizing the participation of industrial speakers to our workshop and also synchronizing with the CoreGRID industrial partners for its advisory board meeting. She informed/reminded me that the Monday slot is quite inconvenient for most. At least for Europeans we have the problem that the deadline for the first call of the European framework program ends on May 8th. As you know, this is of major importance for many of us. That is, people will be reluctant to travel on that monday. We already got this information from several of our industrial contacts. That is, they would probably not be available for Monday and also not for our co-located IAB meeting. Thus, our question: is there any chance whatsoever to get the sessions for our workshop on Tuesday or Wednesday? I know that Monday is the typical workshop day, but as our plenary sessions relies on high quality speakers from European industry, we need some help here. Ramin Steve Crumb wrote the following on 26.02.2007 23:31: their the project. The
programme committee suggested that perhaps that perhaps a presentation about NextGrid would fit well into your workshop. Please contact Mark Parsons (m.parsons@epcc.ed.ac.uk) to discuss this possibility.
