Compute Area today, Monday 6pm

Dear WG/RG chairs, this is a friendly reminder that we have a compute area meeting today: 6pm-7:30pm, room Bellflower The meeting allows us to synchronize again. Please note that this OGF event is running under a slightly different concept. We now have on Wednesday a Standards All Hands Meeting. Everybody is expected to attend this joint sessions, especially all group chairs. The session serves overall discussion and synchronization between groups. It gives lime light to existing OGF results to a broader audience. For this year it has been decided to give (besides others topics) some room for a joint presentation on HPC-Profile/OGSA-BES/JSDL including some discussion on current issues like security/authentication and data-staging. Thus, it is essential that we could also briefly discuss and organize this presentation today during the area meeting. See you tonight. Ramin and Stephen -- Dr.-Ing. No call tomorrow

There will be no Compute Area Call tomorrow, as both Ramin and myself are unavailable to chair it. Short progress updates by email to this list will be very welcome, as usual. At the GFSG call today, I learned of an activity under way to conduct an audit of the enforceability of the OGF IP policy. For this to work, it seems that at the start of all working group meetings INCLUDING CONFERENCE CALLS the chair MUST remind the participants that the OGF IP policy applies. I know that I've neglected to do this in the past. Please try to remember this in your working group calls. Stephen

JSDL Status

All, We held off on the status until we'd had our call today. JSDL is running along fine at the moment. Our complement of chairs is working well and our new Secretary is working well. We have plans to publish a new JSDL (version 1.1) into public comment around the time of OGF19. This is just to deal with errata discovered in the 1.0 document and represents little in the way of real changes. We have the SPMDApplication extension for parallel jobs which will be published around the same time and we are now settling into working on JSDL 2.0. We hope to have 2 sessions at OGF19 and will most likely dedicate one to the two documents and one to JSDL 2.0. steve.. Notes from monthly compute area call

These are my notes from the Compute Area call on Wednesday. 1. Group updates GRAAP-WG (Wolfgang Ziegler) - WS-Agreement is about to go into a third 30-day public comment period - really want to make this the last one GSA-RG - no-one on call OGSA-BES-WG - no-one on call OGSA-HPCP-WG (report mailed in by Marty Humphrey) - preparations for interop demo at SC06 is flushing out issues in OGSA-BES, JSDL, and OGSA-HPCP specs - nominations for a co-chair to replace Marvin Theimer are closed; one excellent candidate nominated. OGSA-RSS-WG (Donal Fellows) - joint sessions with OGSA at GGF18 were very useful - there is still an opening for a committed co-chair to work alongside Donal JSDL-WG - no-one on call - Andreas Savva has succeeded Ali Anjomshoaa as co-chair - he was added to this list only today, and so did not receive notification of the call (my apologies) Short status reports are always welcome. 2. OGF19 - session scheduling and early registration should open soon (this week or next) - trying a more W3C-like model, a 5 day event (not too much on Friday); Wednesday for cross-WG alignment, town hall and more plenary activities; longer working group sessions are encouraged; still book 90 minute slots, but expect to be able to get back-to-back sessions. 3. AoB None. 4. Date of Next Meeting Wed November 29th - apologies from me in advance. Many northern hemisphere countries will finish summer time between now and then. I therefore propose that we start one hour later at 15:00 UTC, so that the local time in the UK, US and Germany will be the same. Stephen

If we hold the monthly compute area telcon tomorrow, will anyone come? I know that several chairs will be in transit, and Ramin has another commitment. I can only host it if it's at 14:00 UTC (thats 15:00 UK, 16:00 Germany, 09:00 Chicago). Stephen
