Invitation to Key Cloud computing event: Cloudscape III - 15-16 March 2011, Brussels

Dear all, I am writing to invite you to the Cloudscape III event: Taking European Cloud Infrastructure Forward, 15 & 16 March 2011, The Hotel (formerly the Hilton), Brussels. Organised by the EC-funded *SIENA * <http://www.sienainitiative.eu/Default.aspx>(Standards and Interoperability for eInfrastructure Implementation Initiative) project, Cloudscape III is the perfect opportunity for experts, developers and end-users in the cloud computing space to become part of the cloud standards process. The event is the culmination of 8 months hard work by SIENA of delivering both an invigorating and stimulating agenda. We are also delighted to announce that*Robert Madelin, DG INFSO Director-General* will open Cloudscape III with a keynote presentation. *Dawn Leaf, Senior Advisor NIST Information Technology Laboratory & Senior Executive for Cloud Computing, NIST* will also be giving a key presentation at the event. Their participation is a clear recognition of the work of SIENA and in particular the importance of the SIENA European Roadmap on Grid and Cloud Standards for e-Science and Beyond, the first iteration of which will be launched at the event. The *SIENA European Roadmap on Grid and Cloud Standards for e-Science and Beyond*, focuses on interoperability and standards with the long-term goal of delivering a policy framework for distributed computing that ensures fair competition and adherence to European strategic priorities. To help achieve these goals, the SIENA consortium is taking advantage of Cloudscape-III to showcase speakers from all over the globe in offering their personal insights on specific use cases or interoperability issues surrounding Cloud computing. The *use cases* will make up part of the final roadmap scenarios to identify drivers for change. Specific emphasis during a packed agenda will also be placed on legal & ethical issues, data privacy, security and the legal side of portability inviting experts in those areas to present as well as to participate. Registration for the event also covers two-days of *presentations *and*Round Tables* led by international experts, developers and users, a *Welcome Cocktail *sponsored by Microsoft Research with demos, networking lunches and coffee breaks, along with a special set of resources for attendees. With Cloud computing is expected to play a key role in the digital economy in Europe and beyond, I hope that you will be able to participate at this key event. You can *register *for Cloudscape III here <http://www.sienainitiative.eu/Pages/EventRegistrationForm.aspx?idevent=b3f36217-2588-4169-886a-bd6922824dfe>and find out more about the event at this link <http://www.sienainitiative.eu/Pages/SelectedDocument.aspx?id_documento=b3f36217-2588-4169-886a-bd6922824dfe>. I also attach the latest working agenda for your convenience. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further information. Best regards Johannes Watzl *About SIENA* SIENA (the Standards and Interoperability for eInfrastructure Implementation Initiative) is contributing to defining a future eInfrastructures roadmap in close collaboration with the European Commission and synthesizing viewpoints from EC-funded DCI projects and Standards Development Organisations active in the Distributed Computing Infrastructure environment. The SIENA European Roadmap on Grid and Cloud Standards for e-Science and Beyond is being created by the SIENA Roadmap Editorial Board made up of representatives from DCI projects, SDOs, grid and cloud research experts and user community representatives. *About Cloudscape III - *Cloudscape III is the third in a series of annual cloud computing workshop that places European priorities centre stage to strengthen the collective voice and deepen ties with all major stakeholders. The event will include a series of use-cases highlighting best practices and challenges faced by both cloud providers and end-users, while roundtable discussions will offer a springboard for participants to join the debate and help formulate a view of the future landscape of services. The Workshop offers ample opportunities to network with EC representatives, cloud computing experts from the SIENA Roadmap and Editorial Board, as well as representatives from standards groups, industry and eScience.
