Cloud Plugfest Düsseldorf location details
As announced yesterday in the Cloud Plugfest planning meeting, NetApp has been so kind to offer rooms in their Düsseldorf office to allow participants from Europe to also physically attend the Cloud Plugfest. Hi Florian, Was this in place of the OCCI sessions at Lyon the same week? If possible, I think we should try to avoid scheduling these in conflict. Joel is finalizing the schedule, and OCCI-WG has requested meeting space beyond the already scheduled sessiosn Wednesday Sep. 21. Note OGF 33 is Sep. 19-21 in Lyon and the EGI Technical Forum and Grid 2011 continue the rest of that week. Can I suggest that the generous offer of NetApp be perhaps reserved for another opportunity, and that we try for space (or a concurrent event) at OGF 33? Thanks! Hi Alan, the Plugfest has been announced around the same time as OGF 33 and is co-located with the Storage Developer Conference in Santa Clara at the same time as OGF 33. This is not optimal, but it may enable the OCCI WG to jointly participate on the Cloud Plugfest from Lyon. The discussion for another location came up during the last Plugfest between Mark Carlson and me and during some larger discussions, we decided to establish another location in europe to enable people who can't visit the US to attend the Plugfest as well. This was not related to the F2F meeting proposal by Alexander Papaspyrou. I asked NetApp, because several people from our group are working on OCCI as well as CDMI who like to attend the Plugfest but can't travel to Lyon. Besides, bringing everyone to OGF would be much too expensive for our group and probably for people from Alexanders group as well. We also had interest from people outside the OCCI WG who like to drop by if there is an event in Düsseldorf. I don't see any large impact or scattering for either OGF nor the Cloud Plugfest. Everyone actively involved in the OCCI WG will travel to Lyon and participate in the sessions there. People interested in OCCI and CDMI now have more options to participate or get to know about OCCI and CDMI. Having only few physical participants was an issue for the last Plugfests and at least I hope that it can be improved by offering more locations (then Santa Clara, Lyon and Düsseldorf) to meet in person. If the OCCI sessions take place on wednesday, I will travel to Lyon on Tuesday evening and attend on wednesday. Hi Florian, OK, thanks very much for the consideration. We'll look forward to seeing you in Lyon on Wednesday, then. In general, we do try to announce OGF's well ahead of time, so hope scheduling can be coordinated with other events wherever possible. For clarity and to help with planning, OGF 34 will be focused on working group meetings at Oxford, UK March 12-14 2012. (There will also be a cloud event I believe in roughly the same time frame, though not the same days at the ISGC in Taipei, Taiwan and most likely a production grid and cloud infrastructure workshop in the US.) We are aiming at OGF 35 mid-June in Delft, and a major multi-organization event including OGF 36 co-located with the e-Science 2012 event in Chicago October 2012. Hope this helps with planning!
