OCCI implementation for Synnefo IaaS

Dear OCCI members, I would like to make an announcement about a new OCCI implementation. Here in GRNET [1] we are currently developing an API translation proxy in order Synnefo [2], our IaaS cloud management software to be compatible with OCCI specifications. Synnefo can be seen in action, powering the ~okeanos service, at http://okeanos.grnet.gr. ~okeanos aims to deliver advanced IaaS for the Greek academic and research community. Some resources about our work regarding OCCI can be found here [3]. *About snf-occi* snf-occi implements an API bridge between OCCI and OpenStack APIs using the kamaki [4] client library and associated CLI tool to translate between interfaces. So far, the Compute part of the implementation has been completed, with Network and Storage support soon to follow. We hope snf-occi will prove helpful for other OpenStack-compatible projects to gain interoperability with OCCI, with little (or no) changes to our initial work. I would also like to know whether it will be possible to make our project public in occi-wg blog for people who may be interested but are not subscribed to this mailing list. Thanks, The ~okeanos team! [1] http://www.grnet.gr [2] http://docs.dev.grnet.gr/synnefo [3] http://docs.dev.grnet.gr/snf-occi/latest/index.html [4] http://docs.dev.grnet.gr/kamaki/latest/index.html

Hi John, that's good news! I think it should be possible to let you write a blog post on it in the occi-wg blog. Just get in touch with Andy. It would be great if you and your colleagues could attend the cloud plugfest in Amsterdam from June 14-16. There will be several OCCI (as well as CDMI) implementations and OCCI WG folks to discuss implementation and standardization details and to test your implementation for interoperability. Congratulations John & the ~okeanos, super work! If you send me the short description you would like to have on the web site along with two images (390x200px and 900x250px), I'll look after the rest. Hi John, Thanks for the notice! I was wondering what this part meant, and if you can expand on it: "Due to OCCI’s structure there cannot be straightforward mapping to Cyclades/OpenStack API. The missing elements are networking and storage capabilities using current Cyclades API." By that we don't mean that synnefo networking and storage API cannot be mapped to OCCI in general, but to OCCI Infrastructure specifications. Regarding storage implementation, by now we have no separate volume support in our storage API so this would be a missing element in the translation from OCCI. About networking, our API supports a more abstract way of dealing with networks and it is a still a work in progress with lots of details yet to be decided. These above are the reasons why we have chosen to only implement the compute part, which is a subset of our API, considered to work well with OCCI. John On 05/22/2012 07:51 PM, Sill, Alan wrote:
